As you know, when the cold weather arrives here in Canada, we all start pumping the heat. While it keeps us toasty and warm, the heat also dramatically dries out our skin. By early December my lips were already peeling and cracking. Even a humidifier didn’t seem to do the trick. I’m going to tell you about two products that I’ve found really help with battling my dry winter lips!
Nivea Lip Butter Original ($3.59 at Shoppers Drugmart)
Nivea Lip Butter contains shea butter and almond oil. These lip butters are also available in Raspberry Rose, Caramel Cream and Vanilla & Macadamia. The original formula contains no scent, it goes on completely sheer. I love applying this using my fingertips before bed, and I find my lips are softer in the morning. It doesn’t stay on very long during the day while drinking and eating, but it’s a great moisturizing treatment for your lips at night. It has replaced my Vaseline! Great for people who gravitate towards unscented lip products!
Baby Lips Dr Rescue ($3.97 at Shoppers Drugmart)
It’s finally available in Canada! This balm is great for different reasons. I chose the colour “Pink Me Up”, but it is available in six colours. It has a hint of eucalyptus, and contains menthol for a cooling effect. It does have very light sheer colour which is great for during the day. It gives your lips an even tone while still being fairly moisturizing.
It does have a fairly strong scent, similar to Vicks VapoRub (which also contains menthol and eucalyptus), but I don’t mind it. I like the cool minty feeling and I find it has slightly better lasting power than the Nivea butter. Swatch below!

I’ve also heard Polysporin has a great lip balm, I haven’t tried it though!

I just tried Baby Lips Dr. rescue recently and I do like them! It’s nice that they’re slightly tinted too.

Me too! I am tempted to try them out in other colours now 🙂
