Do YOU want to look like an Oompa Loompa? Yes? Then keep reading my friend!
I originally heard about this mask from my friend Melissa from Milo & Ben. I’ve been using it for months now and I love it. Here’s why!
Turmeric is a staple ingredient in many curries, but you may not know that it can also be used as a powerful skin care treatment! Turmeric has has anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and anti-inflamatory properties that make it a great way to combat acne and oily skin. It can also diminish wrinkles and many other skin concerns. It can even help with acne scarring, hyper-pigmentation and those dreaded dark circles. Applying this mask under your eyes will give you an instant brightening effect that is all natural.
Indian brides (and grooms) sometimes use turmeric head to toe in order to give their skin a beautiful glow for their wedding day. See what you’ve been missing? This mask is so easy to make and has a ton of amazing benefits. But be warned! Turmeric stains, so wear a dark shirt and use a face cloth you don’t mind making permanently yellow. Also, for medium and darker skin tones this mask will give you a lovely brightening effect. For those with lighter skin, you may notice a light yellow tinge to your skin after you wash off the mask. Don’t worry, just use your favourite face scrub or cleanser afterward and the remaining colour will wash away.
Oily Skin
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
Add milk until a paste forms
Dry Skin
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon coconut oil (liquid form)
Add milk until a paste forms
Once you have your mix, apply with a cotton pad and leave on for 10 minutes. Wash off with a face cloth and your skin will be dewy and glowing! I love this mask because you know exactly what is going into it. I love masks from other companies, but I always bring masks like this into the rotation for their pure ingredients and amazing results.
Have you tried a turmeric mask before? If not, what is your favourite at-home face mask?

OOoh, nice! I’m totally OK with being a temporary Oompa Loompa, it’s basically a daily issue for me re: colour matching my foundation, so why not bump it up a notch and get some added skin care benefits, too?

Haha I look totally crazy but it does work. I really notice a difference in my dark circles, and the overall texture of my skin. You MUST tweet me a photo if you try this out 🙂

Ooh I’m going to have to try this! I’ve never done a home mask before, this will be fun.
Megan Joy says
I love making at home masks, I’m always playing around with what I have in my kitchen lol If you try it out let me know what you think 🙂
Jasmine says
Does this not stain the face? I was working with turmeric once and my fingers were stained yellow for a day lol.
Megan Joy says
There is a yellow hue to your skin afterward, but I followed up with my regular face wash and it removed the excess colour. On darker skin tones the yellow colour actually give your skin a glowing effect.
For lighter skin just be sure not to leave it on longer than 10 minutes and you should be fine!
Jasmine says
Ahh ok that’s reassuring then!

Megan Joy says
Good call! It does leave some colour on your skin, but there are a ton of other benefits 🙂
Julie says
I love your DIY masks and scrubs! I have a Tumeric cream I use on breakouts. I am going to try this over the weekend!
Megan Joy says
Thanks Julie 🙂 I read an article that said this mask is great as a spot treatment for breakouts too. I will be trying that next time!

This sounds so neat! Do you think you could wear this in the shower for easier washing off, or would it stain your tub?
Megan Joy says
Hm…I’d suggest using the sink. I haven’t tried it in the tub but it may leave a bit of yellow colour behind.

Mask pic is awesome! This sounds like a simple yet effective mask. I’ll have to try it I think.

Megan Joy says
It’s weird but I swear it works!
Natalie Heather says
I really, really want to try this! I am all for masks, and if I can DIY it, even better! I’ll let you know how it goes if I do try it.
Megan Joy says
The easier the better as far as I am concerned! Take a photo if you do it! #oompaloompafamily
Law says
Are you using grated tumeric or in powder form? I’ve heard of this my entire life but never tried it (i live in south eastern Asia) 🙂
Megan Joy says
Hi Law! I used turmeric in powder form. Please share a photo on my Twitter or Facebook page if you try it out 🙂 Links are on the top right of the post!
Polina says
I gotta ask.. isnt it bad for your skin to add something as acidic as lemon juice on it? Disrupts the pH balance and what not?
Megan Joy says
Great question! I haven’t used the lemon myself as I have dry skin, but after checking out tons of different reviews the consensus is that lemon (or lime) juice helps this mask to remove excess oil! Here’s just one of the many posts on turmeric-lemon masks – http://beauty.about.com/od/organic-skincare/r/Skin-Brightening-Turmeric-Face-Mask.htm
