Liquid liner is kind of my thing. I wear it almost daily, and it’s the eye makeup I feel most comfortable in. Over the years I have tried many differed brands and formulas, always searching for something better. Right now I am rotating between three different liners that each have their own selling features and drawbacks. Let’s jump in to it!
Maybelline Line Works Waterproof Liquid Liner $9.39 (At Shoppers Drugmart and online)
This is one that I have repurchased a few times, it’s like my old faithful. It has a slightly flexible felt tip, and the formula is blackest black which I love. I have oily lids so I do notice a bit of smudging later in the day, but this one does not flake off which is awesome. Because the tip is so fine you can get a really thin delicate line with it.
Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Gel Eyeliner $10 (at Shoppers Drugmart and other Drugstores)
I just bought this for the first time a few weeks ago and I really like it! It gives a thicker line than the felt tip, and the gel really stays put. The formula is velvety but can be a little tacky while it’s drying. This is great for more dramatic winged liner, and certainly lives up to being waterproof!
Mirabella Magic Marker Eyeliner $22 (in select salons or online)
This was a Christmas gift from my Mom and I was super excited to try it out. Positives are that the marker tip allows you to have a ton of control while applying, also it’s paraben-free. The downside is that the colour is a bit sheer and not as black as I normally like my liquid liner. It’s my go-to when I am a serious rush as I can literally swipe this on in two brush strokes, and because it’s a bit sheer you can’t really notice if it’s not perfect!
Left to right: Maybelline Liquid Liner, Rimmel Gel Liner, Mirabella Magic Marker
In my ongoing search for the best liquid liner, I still think Maybelline wins. It’s super dark, and the felt tip allows you to get really fine or thicker lines depending on what look you want. I like to switch back and forth between different ones, but overall I think Maybelline has it all!
What is your favourite liquid liner? Any suggestions on what I should try next?

I’ve never tried MUF but I love their Aqua Eyes pencil liner!

Wow…that Maybelline liner is intense! I wasn’t expecting it to be that rich, especially given the price point. I wear liquid liner almost every day…I may need to check that out.
Megan Joy says
Totally! The Maybelline liner is super dark and pigmented. I was surprised too considering it’s such a great price point.
Natalie Heather says
Wow, that Maybelline Liquid Liner is really gorgeous. The Rimmel one is nice as well, but I think Maybelline really wins in this category – especially considering the price! Great review!
Megan Joy says
Thanks Natalie! It really is great for the price point

I’ve only tried marker-style liners, but this makes me want to try another style since the others look so much more crisp.

Let me know if you try something new!

I don’t like liquid liners, they always dry so crinkly but I do love gel liners. My favorite one is a brown from Maybelline’s StudioEye line.
Megan Joy says
I do find that “crinkly” problem with a lot of liquid liners, or they just flake off. Worst!
Julie says
I love the Kat Von D tattoo liquid liner!
Megan Joy says
I have a Kat Von D shadow palette that I love! I will check out her liner for sure

Megan Joy says
It can definitely be tricky sometimes that is for sure! Give it a try sometime, you might surprise yourself

Liquid liners are one thing I have not tried yet. I do have some here in my stash so I need to take them our for a test ride.
Megan Joy says
Totally! Practice makes perfect, it took me a long time to feel comfortable using liquid liner but now I love it

I just tried an Essence Liquid Liner and it’s fantastic! For like $3 I definitely recommend giving it a shot because I’d love to know what you think! My first time applying liquid liner of course I’m taking photos for a blog post… wish I could have gotten it as perfect as yours
Megan Joy says
You are a girl after my own heart! That was going to be my 4th addition to this post but I didn’t want to make it too long lol I love that liner! And for $3 you can’t go wrong!
Carly says
I’ve been using Essence Extra Longlasting Eyeliner Pen too! For under $5 you can’t go wrong!
Megan Joy says
It’s so true, Essence products are great price and quality. They have a dupe for the Ciate caviar nails for under $4!
