Mask Challenge Week 1 – Hot Chocolate Masque

Let the Mask Challenge begin!

For the next 5 weeks me and my lovely Canadian Beauty Bloggers will be reviewing one mask per week. We will rate each mask on scale from 1-5. At the end of 5 weeks we will see which mask wins the honour of being called the best!

All of the masks are from Montagne Jeunesse, and are available at Farleyco.ca and Walmart as well! Their products are vegetarian and never tested on animals. They focus on creating natural masks at an affordable price. What’s not to love about that?

This week’s mask is Hot Chocolate Masque, which has mediterranean clay to help deep cleanse and dark chocolate and orange oil to soften the skin. It gently warms up as you apply it and it smells DEVINE. Seriously, this mask smells good enough to eat. After leaving it on for 15 minutes I rinsed it off with warm water and a face cloth.

Afterwards my skin felt soft and refreshed, but after about an hour some hives started popping up. These masks are all natural, but there may be an ingredient that just didn’t agree with my skin. I love the smell and I enjoyed the warming element of the mask, but because my skin doesn’t seem to like it I won’t be picking this as my favourite mask of the challenge.

Happy Meggy:

Sad Meggy: Montagne-Jeunesse-hot-chocolate-mask-selfie-1

  • Comfort: 4/5 – I love the warming feeling of this mask
  • Aroma: 5/5 – IT SMELLS LIKE CHOCOLATE
  • Result: 2/5 – It gave me some rashes, so I had to give it a low rating : (
  • Ease of use: 3/5 – I had a bit of difficulty open the package without spilling the mask, but applying it to my face was fine. It was thick enough that it didn’t drop and make a mess

Overall score: 14

Please be sure to check out the other reviews of this mask below!

I get rashes a lot from skincare, I’m almost used to it. But I still enjoyed the mask! It smelled so good 🙂

Yikes that sucks about the rash! Perhaps it’s the cocoa? I seem to recall reading somewhere that it can be irritating for some people. I’m a little scared to try the peel-off this week b/c my skin still needs to recover from this one too haha. Where the moisturizing masks be at?

This is definitely not a mask for sensitive skin types…it’s far too harsh. 🙁 Which is such a shame, because it smells sooooo amaaaaazing!

The hives are almost all gone now, which is awesome! Next up is the peel-off mask 🙂

It was probably the orange oil in the masque that irritated your skin. I have sensitive skin too and I’m always careful to stay away from any products that contain citrus oils, they can be super irritating.

Good to know Lindsay! I only developed sensitive skin a few years ago and I’m still figuring out which ingredients trigger hives and irritation. Thanks!

A rash is not a good reaction at all. But the smell is pretty amazing.
