It’s Wedding Wednesday again! This week I am bringing you some DIY ideas for your big day.
Whether you love real flowers or not, one thing we can agree on is that they are expensive. For my wedding we went with a mix of real flowers and paper pom poms. These beautiful tissue paper creations are also called Tissue Flowers or Tissue Balls. They are super affordable and add a personalized touch to the decor of your wedding. You can hang them in the isles at the ceremony, from the ceiling at the reception or even use them as centrepieces!
The best part is that they only cost a few dollars to make. Tissue paper is usually around $1 per pack the ribbon might cost $2. I think we had around 14 poms at our ceremony, so altogether it cost around $30 (plus the time it takes to make them of course.) Not too bad am I right?

My beautiful yellow and white poms were made by my bridesmaid Beverley. She is the most crafty person I know, and I’m glad I asked her to make these because they turned out more lovely than I ever could have done myself! You can use one colour of tissue per ball, or you can mix it up and add two to create a multi-coloured pom. That’s the beauty of this, you can customize them however you would like!
Here are some other photos I found of tissue poms I found. I love the pink and mint colour scheme : )

So how do you make them? It’s easy!
What you’ll need:
- Tissue Paper (about 10-12 sheets per pom)
- Scissors
- Ribbon or string
Steps:
- Take your stack of tissue paper and lay flat on your surface
- Begin making 1.5 inch folds, accordion style all the way across. Be sure to press firmly on each fold
- Fold in half and tie a ribbon or string around the center
- Using your scissors, trim each end into either a round or pointed edge
- Fan out slowly, pulling one piece of paper at a time
- Fluff until your desired shape is achieved!
You can take a peek at this video if you want to see all of the steps in details!
Paper flowers aren’t just great for weddings, they are perfect for baby showers, birthday parties
