The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil is cleanser that removes makeup and dirt from your skin while maintaining skins natural moisture barrier. If you are new to cleansing oils you might think that they will break you out or make your oily skin worse. Not at all!
Using oil to cleans your skin is actually beneficial for oily skin. That squeeky clean feeling you get from some cleansers can cause your skin to overproduce oil to compensate all the natural oils you’ve just stripped away. That can lead to oiler skin and breakouts, which no one wants. I generally just use coconut oil mixed with a little castor oil. But when I heard The Body Shop also had one I wanted to try it out!
This cleansing oil contains Soybean, Sweet Almond and Sunflower oil as the top ingredients which is great because it contains no mineral oils. I did notice that the Camomile oil is second to last on the ingredients list which means there is a very small amount present. It’s just a little strange since it’s marketed as a Camomile cleanser, but I think the fact that it has a nice Camomile scent is what people will notice and enjoy.
Compared to other oil cleansers I’ve used this one is average. It didn’t cause my skin to react and I didn’t get any rashes or sensitivity to it which is awesome. So if you have dry, sensitive skin this would be great for you.
I apply one pump into my palm and then massage the oil onto dry skin for 1-2 minutes. Then I add water to create a milky emulsifier that will give you a deeper clean. It’s safe for contact wearers so you can gently rub your eyes to remove mascara and eyeliner. Remove the oil with a damp cloth.
You can follow up with a traditional cleanser as most people treat this as a makeup remover. I find my skin gets clean enough just using the oil but it’s totally personal preference.
Pros:
- Lovely Camomile scent
- No mineral oils
- Removes makeup well ( though it didn’t always remove my waterproof makeup fully)
- No rashes or redness and it didn’t leave my skin dry
Cons:
- Camomile is very low on the ingredient list
- The pump forcefully shoots the product straight out (not into your hand) and it often splashes it on the counter or mirror. A better pump or an eye dropper would be much better
- At $18 it’s a bit more than most people would pay for a pre-cleanser (makeup remover) but TBS always has great sales so you can easily pick this up for half price
Have you tried any of the products from The Camomile Collection at The Body Shop? Would you try an oil cleanser? Let me know in the comments : )

Sounds interesting! I have yet to find an oil with a dispenser that totally satisfies. Maybe oils are trickier since they’re so slippery?

That might be the case. This pump is like super charged. It shoots out the oil so fast lol

Thanks for the detailed post! I’ve always been a bit weary about using oil as a cleansing agent, especially for my particularly oily t-zone haha. Could you also do a review on Vain Pursuits? I’ve been hearing a lot about them lately and would love to have your opinion on their products!

I haven’t heard of that brand before, I am going to look into it for sure! Thanks for the recommendation

Great review! I’m currently using the cleansing butter from this range and really like it! Shu Uemura cleansing oils are my all-time favourite, but I really like this option for a mineral oil-free and more affordable version. May have to try it next! xo

I have heard amazing things about the Shu Uemura one. This one really is a great price for a good product so I’d recommend giving it a shot!

Megan Joy says

I need to start trying out cleansing oils! I typically use cleansing water to remove my makeup, but oils just sound so luxurious

I have dry skin, but I know people that have oily skin and they still have great results from cleansing oils. Let me know what you think if you give them a try

I definitely can use cleansing oils as a cleanser vs just a makeup remover. It needs some time to get used though because I do enjoy the squeaky clean feel provided by foam cleansers

I hear you, there’s something nice about your skin feeling completely cleansed. And some oil cleansers can leave a film on the skin which I do NOT like!
