Wedding Wednesday: Flowers

It’s Wedding Wednesday again and today we are talking flowers. They may only last one day but they have become a big part of wedding decor and tradition. Some brides are forgoing flowers altogether while some choose fabric or even jewel bouquets instead. These days there are more options than ever! As with most things when it came to our wedding we wanted to keep it simple.

We got our flowers from Botany Floral Studio on College Street in Toronto. I can’t say enough about this shop, we had such a great experience. Their prices are extremely competitive (in fact more afforable than most places in St. Catharines) and the owner worked with us at several different appointments to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. She answered every frantic email and our flowers were delivered on the day of the wedding looking more beautiful that we could have hoped!

Funny enough, the themed bridal photoshoot I did with Sara Wilde a few years ago featured flowers from Botany Floral Studio as well! Little did I know that years later I would be holding a bouquet from the same studio on my own wedding day!

We chose three different flowers for our wedding – Baby’s Breath, White Dahlias and Crespedia Billy Balls. We went with those three flowers for several different reasons.

Botany Flower Studio. This was our trial so we could get an idea of how our centrepiece would look!

First, we wanted simple floral arrangements in tiny bud vases for the tables, so we knew we’d be staying away from larger flowers like Calla Lilies or Peonies (they are gorgeous though!). The White Dahlias were the largest flower we chose.

Second, the venue was slightly rustic and industrial. Large and traditional bouquets wouldn’t have fit in with the decor. These small, simple and clean arrangements were pretty without taking away from the beauty of the venue itself.

Third, Crespedia (Billy Balls) and Baby’s Breath are very affordable flowers that will still look lovely even hours after they are delivered. Billy Balls last forever, in fact we still have some from our wedding and they look as good as they did on our special day almost a year ago!

Bridal Party Bouquets:

We wanted to use the three flowers we chose for everything, our table arrangements and all of the bouquets as well. The bridal party bouquets were simply delicate clouds of Baby’s Breath. That’s it! I was told by the bridesmaids that they appreciated how light they were : )

Boutonnieres:

We loved the Crespedia, they are such fun looking flowers and they looked amazing in the men’s boutonnieres. They were complimented by a touch of Baby’s Breath and tied with twine.

Bridal Bouquet:

My bouquet was Baby’s Breath with some Crespedia mixed in! I love love loved my bouquet. It was playful but still pretty.

Table Arrangements:

As you can see in the photo below, the flowers are not the main attraction and that’s exactly what we wanted. Archeo has such beautiful architecture we wanted that to shine through, we didn’t want to cover it up with flowers and other decor. Other than a few bud vases on each table we didn’t add anything else. We didn’t need to!

Wow I’m so blown away by how beautiful everything was and all the attention you put into the details! I’m so overwhelmed right now with all the details :/

It helped that my husband is a designer so he was very involved with everything. He has a great eye, I couldn’t have done it without him. I’m here if you ever need to vent!

Hey Megan, I love your flowers. Everything about your wedding was so beautiful and well put-together. I love the simple flowers look. We went with only a couple of types of flowers as well, with our bouquets in just astilbe. Having that simplicity really just accentuates every other element of the wedding!

I love the rustic decor. So homey and comfortable! I SUCK at arrangements of any sort so I envy you and your husband’s eye for putting together all of those little details!

It was a lot of work trying to make sure everything was how we wanted it (as I’m sure you know!) but it was worth it seeing how it all came together! Also, your wedding dress was my favourite colour!

I love the bridesmaids bouquets, so simple yet so pretty! I’m not sure about having flowers at my wedding, I just don’t love them enough to fork over that kind of money for them! Plus I’m allergic, so that wouldn’t be pretty lol

Why aggravate your allergies when their are so many alternatives? My friend used fabric flowers for her wedding and they looked gorgeous! Check it out! http://www.weddingbells.ca/real-weddings/a-stunning-destination-wedding-in-mexico/#

Love these photos! I’m in love with the colour of your bridesmaids dresses and the rustic theme you had for your wedding. You look gorgeous in your dress too!
