How I Organize my Makeup!

November 7, 2014 12 Comments

organize

I get asked a lot how I organize all of my makeup. The simple answer is – not very well! Bins help keep it contained but usually I just toss them in the drawer and that’s it. For the sake of this post I have organized the drawers a bit better but they don’t normally look that nice lol

As a beauty blogger I have a mix of makeup I purchased myself and makeup I have been sent for review. I have a very simple method for storing the products I am sent from brands. Basically they go on a shelf in my closet, though in my defence they are at least organized nicely on the shelf (might husband might disagree lol). I like doing this because I can see exactly what I’ve already blogged about and what I still have to review. If I tucked that stuff in a drawer I would likely forget about things and that is no beuno!

Below I’ve shared photos of how I organize the makeup I use more often. This is what lives in the cabinet under the sink in my bathroom!

drawer 1

(Left: Eyeshadow / Right: Mascara and Eyeliner)

I picked up these 2 plastic three-drawer bins from Target for less than $10 each. You can find something similar at Target or Walmart. I usually stack these but for the sake of photos I’m showing them side by side. This is how I store my eyeshadows, mascaras and eyeliners.

I do have one large eyeshadow palette (Nude ‘Tude from theBalm) that I just sit that on top of the bins since it’s too long to fit inside.

drawer 2

(Left: Blush, Bronzer, Highligher / Right: Lipgloss, Lipstick)

Now on to the second drawer! On the left we have the drawer that houses my blushes, bronzers and highlighters!  On the right are my lip glosses and lipsticks (I also have another drawer filled with balms and stains).

I’m not going to lie, I generally have 5-10 additional lip products scattered between my purses, night table, counters and pretty much all over the place. So this is in no way my whole collection!

drawer 3

(Left: Foundation, BB Cream, Primer / Right: Lip Balm, Lip Stain)

Now for the third and final drawer! On the left are my foundations, BB creams and primers and on the right are my lip balms and stains.

I had a lot more primer samples bouncing around in the drawer on the left recently but I just did a major clean out so it looks a lot more organized now. These drawers are not large but it’s a great way to force me to contain myself. If there’s no room in the drawer generally I will toss something to make room (usually something that’s expired and I’ve forgotten all about!)

Along with these bins I also have a makeup bag under my counter with my essentials that I use daily. These are the products that I could use to create a 5 minute face if I was really in a pinch!

makeup bag

This makeup bag has been around the block. I think I got it from Winner about 5 years ago and it’s still going strong. It’s not much to look at but it’s super functional. The plastic makes it easy to clean when it inevitably gets dirty and I can easily see everything inside. I’ve thought about replacing it a few times but haven’t been able to find a makeup bag that’s see through and this shape. Most are either too small or not clear (I’m looking at you Ipsy!)

Old faithful has served me well all these years!

Here’s what is currently in my makeup bag:

I do normally keep a smaller makeup bag in my purse with just a lip product, eyeliner and lash curler (and maybe a hand cream) so this one doesn’t usually leave the bathroom.

And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed this post, please let me know what you thought in the comments. I read every one and appreciate you stoping by!

I loved seeing getting to peak into your stash, Megan! I am in desperate need of some more drawers – the Wet n Wild mail really pushed my storage overboard, haha!

The Wet n Wild stuff is definitely on the shelf in the closet. There’s no way it would fit into those little drawers : )

I might invest in a larger bin with bigger drawers soon, my stash is just growing too large lol

I bet you had a ton of stuff from working at Shoppers eh? The samples are what get me. They really add up quickly!

The drawers are never that nicely organized I swear! But it is nice having one drawer for each kind of makeup. Normally I just toss everything in there and have to dig a little to find what I’m looking for lol

Looks great! I have similar clear plastic shelves to store/display my current faves- though they only house a fraction of my stash 😉

Oh I like your lip drawer! So nice! :) Everything looks very nicely organized. I find that my drawers are a bit out of control just because since things aren’t the same size I just end up shoving everything in haha.

Normally I just throw my lips products in the drawer so it’s usually quite messy. At least they are organized into drawers though right? That has to count for something lol

This is a fun type of post, kinda like one of those “what’s in my purse” posts! Yours is much neater than mine. I would love to get one of those little Target shelves; I’ll have to remember this next time I drop by!

I was actually thinking of doing a “what’s in my purse” post. It’s always cool to see how other people organize their stuff. Target is amazing for affordably storage!
