Back in December I attended a Glossier (pronounced glossy-aye) Pop-Up Shop here in San Francisco. My friend (and fellow blogger) Sarah was invited and brought me along! Glossier is a “skincare as makeup” brand that was created by blogger Emily Weiss of Into the Gloss.
She wanted to create a few key products that would help you look your best while still letting your natural skin shine through. Emily wanted to start off with the basics – a mist, moisturizer, balm, and tint. These products are part of Phase 1 on Glossier.com.
During the holidays they offered a Limited Edition Glossier Liquid Foil Liner Set ($28 US) which came with liners in both gold and silver!
These were the main attraction at the Glossier pop-up event. Emily was there offering free applications of the foil liners to anyone who wanted to try them! Emily also had a “selfie” booth set up so guests (and fans of her blog) could come by and get a photo with her!
After testing the liners out at the event I decided to purchase the set. I thought it would be something fun and sparkly to wear for New Years Eve or any holiday events I might be attending.
The silver is very pretty though it’s quite liquidy. When I swatched it on my hand it definitely had a foiled look to it but when applied to my eyelid it was a lot more transparent and almost sheer.
I should also mention that I am not a huge fan of this applicator. It’s a hard foam so it doesn’t glide the product very well. It’s like dipping a pencil in paint and trying to paint a line – it doesn’t really work.
I found using a “stamping” method with the applicator made things much easier.
I much preferred the gold shade, it was brighter and more visible on my eyelids. It was very liquidy as well but I just applied two coats and it gave me a more opaque look.
The swatches on my arm look quite “foiled” but on the eyelid neither of the colours are as vibrant.
I think this was a fun idea for the holidays but if Glossier wants to bring back this product as part of their permanent lineup in the future I would rethink the applicator and the formula. A thicker consistency would be an improvement for sure.
Also, both liners have identical packaging so the only way to tell which one is which is by checking the sticker on the bottom. It makes things a little confusing and I think having the logo printed in a different colour for each liner would make more sense.
Though I’m not blown away by these, overall I still think these are fun liners and were something new that I didn’t already have in my makeup collection. Glossier is only a few months old and this is a very new endeavour for Emily. I think she’s doing a great job, and even though this liner missed the mark for a few reasons the concept was really fun and modern. I can’t wait to see what else Glossier comes up with in 2015!
Here’s my makeup look using the Glossier Liquid Foil Liner in gold!
Have you tried any foil liners? Let me know in the comments! : )

When did you hair get so long???
I love the idea of foil liners, but it never looks good on me unless I pair it with a solid black line on the lashline.

I have started wearing my extensions now that my hair is a little longer : ) I wish it was this long naturally!
I agree, I think next time I’ll apply black liner first then the gold above. It’s so hard to see otherwise!

Ah, I’ve been super curious about this brand (as a regular ITG reader)- never knew it was pronounced this way! Love the gold shade with your eyes, but it’s a shame the formula/applicator wasn’t as good as it could have been.

I think it was really smart for Emily to start small with just a few skincare products, and I’ve heard they are awesome (though I haven’t tried them yet). The foil liner for the holidays was a really cute idea but I just didn’t love the packaging or the formula.
I always LOVE when a blogger gets to the point of creating their own products though, so big ups to Emily! : )

The gold is so pretty! It’s very subtle which let’s it be doable even outside of holiday season. Too bad it’s better on the arm than the eye – why does that happen sometimes?
Megan Joy says
It doesn’t make sense! I don’t get it. Also I have small eyelids so makeup tends to disappear on my eyes quite often lol

It’s too bad that they didn’t quite work out on the eyes because the arm swatches look awesome! You still did a really good job at showing off the gold one, it’s beautiful! And so are you! 🙂

Hi! Do it still happen to have this in your makeup collection? I’d be very much interested in buying it off you, if you don’t use it anymore.
