Last weekend my husband and I (and Buffy) went to the Palace of Fine Arts. This is a hidden gem in the Marina District of San Francisco! It was built in 1915 for the Panama-Pacific Exposition and after being reconstructed in the 1960’s it’s still a huge tourist attraction. The structure was designed by Bernard Maybeck who took inspiration from Roman and Greek Architecture.
Now it’s used as a location to display art and host concerts. It’s also become a popular location for wedding photos. In fact while we were there we saw a few brides doing their photos!
Buffy loved it. This is her happy face.
The palace itself overlooks a beautiful pond with a large grassy area on the other side. There were lots of people sitting out on blankets soaking up the sun. It would be such a lovely spot for a picnic.
Buff was getting a little overheated so we hopped over to Ghirardelli Square and got some delicious dessert from Kara’s Cupcakes.
It was such a fun day, and I’m glad we got a chance to visit these spots before we move back to Toronto. It’s often the things that are in our own backyard that we take for granted. We are only here for 2 more months so we want to see everything before we go!
What are your favourite spots in your city? Let me know in the comments!

It’s beautiful! Sadly it’s not within walking distance from Market but you can take an Uber or transit. It’s a bit out of the way but totally worth it!
