3 Ways to Wear theBalm Nude ‘Tude Palette

March 2, 2015 25 Comments

nude tude

It’s been almost a year since I moved to San Francisco. I can hardly believe it’s been 11 months since my husband and I picked up and moved to a new country! It’s been such a wonderful and challenging time and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

One of the first stores I discovered after moving here was theBalm Cosmetics! They’re a San Francisco beauty brand that I’ve completely fallen in love with. From lipgloss to bronzer every product I have tried exceeds my expectations. I would say it’s somewhat similar to Benefit Cosmetics in that they are a playful brand with cheeky slogans and names. And their products are great quality!

The first thing I purchased from their flagship store here in the Bay area was theBalm Nude ‘Tude eyeshadow palette. I has come along with me on every trip I’ve been on over the last year (and there have been many). It can create almost any look with this palette, that’s why I haven’t felt the need to purchase any of the other highly recommended ones like the Urban Decay Naked palettes.

So I wanted to share just a few ways that you can mix and match these nude shades to create totally different looks! Because it contains both matte and shimmer colours it gives you a lot of variety in the combinations you can put together.

Let’s get started : )

copper-eye

The New Classic

  • Lids: Sophisticated (shimmering bronze taupe)
  • Liner: Marc Jacobs Beauty Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Waterproof Eyeliner
  • Lips: Annabelle lip liner in Coral
  • Mascara: Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

I’m all about that…coral? I am obsessed with pink lipstick but I am trying to branch out and wear different colours. This shade is just a lipliner with some chapstick overtop but I think the shade is really bold and pretty.

For the eyes it couldn’t be simpler. I love this coppery bronzed shade and I applied it all over my lids up to my brow bone. I finished the look off with some liquid liner and mascara. The lips are the main attraction but the shadow still has dimension and a metallic shimmer that I really like! The way the light hits the shadow it looks like I have a highlighter shade in the middle of my lid but I don’t! It’s just the beautiful shimmer in the eyeshadow.

“No Makeup” Look

  • Lid: Stubborn (shimmery light peach)
  • Liner: Sultry (matte brown)
  • Mascara: Benefit They’re Real Mascara

no makeup look

This is a very simple look and is great for those days you want something quick and easy! I used a peach shade all over my lids that is almost the same colour as my skin. It evened out the tone of my lids and cancelled out any redness. Then I used a matte brown shade along my upper and lower lash line to create a very soft barely-there liner.

For my lips I just applied some chapstick and that’s it!

soft smokey eye

Neutral Smokey Eye

  • Lid: Standoffish (champagne)
  • Outer lid/above brow bone: Seductive (shimmery copper brown)
  • Crease: Sexy (matte dark burgundy)
  • Liner: Sleek (matte dark brown)
  • Mascara: Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
  • Lips: Annabelle lip liner/ Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain in Valentine

soft-smokey-eye

I could have gone a lot darker with this as the palette does include a dark brown and black shade but I wanted to keep this more neutral. I started with a shimmery champagne colour all over my lid. Then I used a medium brown to create a smokey effect by bringing it out past the corner of my eye and above my brow bone. Then I used the dark burgundy right in my crease to add some depth. I finished the look by using a dark brown eyeshadow as my liner for a softer effect. I used the brown on the top and bottom lash line using an angled brush.

This is a must softer and more natural way to wear a smokey eye. On camera it looks quite light but in person the colours are still quite dramatic without being too dark or harsh.

Nude shadow palettes are huge right now. Which one is your favourite? Let me know in the comments!

Several of the tones are very light and barely show up on me and I know for some people that’s a definite drawback. I wear a lot of the lighter shades just to even out my lid colour so it works for me. That being said, I still want to buy the Naked palette one day : )

I’m a big fan of wearing that extra swipe of neutral eyeshadow and liner these days. I love that you can look like you’re not really wearing makeup, but you obviously look better because you are.

    Great roundup of different looks!

Ps – are you guys staying in SF? It’s crazy how time flies!

Some Rexall stores carry theBalm here in Toronto-I’ve bought a lot of products there. I like theBalm but not in love with them as a brand. I have more ‘success’ with their eyeshadow palettes, blushes, bronzers. I don’t do well with their lip products and mascaras for some reason. Great post and I’ll dig my palette out and give these looks a try.

That’s so cool I didn’t know that Rexall carried theBalm! I know the website Nail Polish Canada has some products as well.

I gotta say I am loving that coral lip, Megan! The coppery shade you applied on your eyes is super duper pretty, I am in love with those kinds of colours for eyes.

I’ve never tried anything from the Balm, but I really want to check out some of their powders!
