ColourPop: $5 lipsticks that won’t quit

April 13, 2015 19 Comments

colourpop lipstick review

I recently discovered an LA cosmetics brand called ColourPop and I’m kind of obsessed (you can watch my haul and first impressions YouTube video here). I could not wait to swatch all the beautiful lippies I ordered and share them with you! These lipsticks are intensely pigmented, they last for hours and the best part? They are only $5! And they smell like chocolate so…there’s that.

The formula contains avocado oil and mango seed butter for a creamy texture that won’t budge. They last for hours and while it will transfer while eating and drinking it’s pigmented enough that colour will still remain on your lips. It’s worth noting that these lipsticks do not contain a lot of natural ingredients (darnit).  But they never test on animals and the products are made right in Los Angeles where the brand was founded. *Cue Demi Lovato “Made in the USA”*

I picked up four different shades of lipstick and two eyeshadows. I’ll be swatching the eyeshadows in a separate post next week!

colourpop clique lipstick review

Clique (matte)

The website describes this shade as a “vivid true orange red” and it’s my least favourite in terms of colour. The matte finish is awesome and I’d definitely consider buying more matte lipsticks from Colourpop, just in a different colour.

I wanted more of a true orange tone in this one and it’s leaning more red than I had hoped. While it’s a pretty colour I just don’t feel it does anything for me. I’m sure I’ll use this at some point for a very specific look but I’m not crazy about it. Le sigh.

colourpop scandy lipstick review

Scandy (satin)

This one is described as a “cool toned neon pink” an boy oh boy do I love it! It’s so rich and vibrant and I really like the finish. The satin lipsticks have just a hint of shine and aren’t too glossy. It’s got a purpley-pink thing going on that reminds me of Benefit Cosmetics Lollitint. I’ll be wearing this a ton all spring and summer!

colourpop punky lipstick review

Punky (satin)

This “mid-tone warm neon pink” is tied with Scandy for my favourite colour. This is another satin lippie and is much more of a traditional pink that kind of goes with anything. This is going to be a favourite of mine for summer I can already tell!

colourpop bound lipstick review

Bound (glossy)

This is a “light nude pink” that I was pleasantly surprised by. The glossy finish was a slightly slippery and a bit more streaky than the matte and satin lipsticks, so getting an even application took a little longer than with the other three.

What I love about this shade is that it has a lot more pink in it than I thought. Nudes with too much brown tend to just blend into my skin and make me look like a ghost. No bueno.

While it’s a bit lighter than I would normally go for I still think it’s super wearable. I’ve also tried layering a slightly darker lip liner underneath and it deepened the colour slightly which I like.  Another win for Colourpop!

Have you tried anything from this brand? What’s your favourite bold lip colour? Let me know in the comments!

I only got two eyeshadows and while I liked them I think the lipsticks were the standout products in my order. I’ll be placing another order before I move back to Toronto : )

Those lip colours are beautiful! I’m kicking myself for only picking up eyeshadows in my order now. :(

I regret not buying more lipsticks! The shadows are really nice too, a super velvety texture that is really buildable. And only $5! #deals

I had no idea the shipping to Canada was so bad, they really need to remedy that. It was free shipping on orders over $25 in the US, so there’s no reason shipping to Canada should be so expensive/slow : (

I feel like you can pull off such a range of lip colours. I even like that first one that you’re not a huge fan of.

Thanks Jackie, it’s not my favourite shade but I’m sure I’ll use it again at some point. I just ordered a bright pastel orange from Colourpop so we’ll see how that one turns out hee hee!

Bound matches your top so much! I’ve gotten a colorpop product in an Ipsy bag a while ago, but I think it was a bronzer? I still haven’t opened it!

Oh bronzer? Interesting! I realized that the shadow matched my shirt too, I think I MAY have an obsession with pink : )
