Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeshadow Palette 2

When I left San Francisco I had to cancel my Birchbox subscription. Thankfully Birchbox Canada is now available so I can re-subscribe once I’m settled into my place in Toronto.

Birchbox rewards you with points for reviewing the products that come in your monthly box and I had some stocked up in my account. Before I cancelled my subscription I ordered this Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeshadow Palette 2 ($24 US) using my points so it was totally free!

This candy inspired palette looked like such a perfect choice for spring and I thought the colour selection had a nice balance of pastels and neutrals.

Left to right: Cotton Candy (pastel purple), Licorice (shimmery chrome), Confetti (pastel pink, purple and yellow, Cloud (taupe), Marshmallow (matte cream)

The first thing I noticed was how finely milled these shadows were. They were almost translucent when swatched – I had to apply them all at least twice in order to get them to show up on camera. Licorice was quite chalky but the rest of them had a nice velvety texture and applied smoothly.

Here’s the look I created using a few of the colours from this palette:

I applied Marshmallow on my inner corners and under my brow bone. Then I used Cotton Candy all over the lid and added Confetti in the crease. Unfortunately the shadows were so sheer I had to pile it on just to make it visible. This left me with some serious fallout on my lashes that looked pretty terrible.

While I am happy with this pastel spring makeup look I definitely don’t think this palette is worth $24. The eyeshadows look beautiful in the pan but once applied they are barely noticeable. There are several drugstore eyeshadow palettes that have much better pigmentation at a fraction of the cost.

That’s too bad about the palette – it’s so disappointing when the product doesn’t live up to it’s price point! Confetti is super pretty in the pan, though.

I know, Confetti is totally what made me want to buy the palette haha! I really had to pile it on, maybe if I used a primer I would have gotten better pigmentation, but either way it’s pretty overpriced.

Too bad the eyeshadows are so sheer and lack pigmentation but this light wash of color actually looks beautiful on you! And I love that Mac lipstick on you. The whole look is very soft and feminine and suits you very well and your blonder hair.

Thanks so much Agata! The lipstick is one of my all time favourites from MAC, but I had it layered over a lip gloss so it looks a lot more sheer here than it actually is. I think I may have a full-on pink lipstick addiction! : )

It’s a shame that the shades were so ultra sheer, but even still, you wear pastel shades so well! xo

You’re sweet, thanks Jen! I do love pastels, and even if this palette isn’t my favourite it’s so pretty to look at lol

That’s what I was going for! I love darker vampier colours for fall and winter but I wanted to do something light and flirty for spring. Thanks for reading!

This is so pretty, and your lashes look fine in the pictures, but aggh yeah, I don’t like shadows that fall on the lashes too. Confetti looks super cute in the palette! The lipstick totally matches your eyes!

Thanks Whitney! Yeah I was pretty disappointed when I saw how much fallout there was but I think with a primer I might be able get a bit more pigmentation? We’ll see lol
