Today I wanted to show you this simple and quick hairstyle. The sock bun is nothing new, but it’s a tried and true “bad hair day” tamer that we all know and love. This post was originally published on the blog for Remington but I wanted to share it on my blog too!
A ballerina bun is perfect for hot summer days because it keeps your hair off your neck and it’s great for those “second day” hair days when you just want your hair up and out of your face.
I used the Remington Perfect Bun in Blonde that was sent to me from Remington to create this look. I have fine and layered hair so it can be tricky getting all the stray pieces into a bun. I’ve learned that if it looks a little messy it’s ok! It doesn’t need to be perfect and it still looks pretty even if you have a few stray pieces.
- Step 1: Pull your hair into a ponytail. Use your hands (not a brush) to give it a more casual look.
- Step 2: Once your hair is in a ponytail slightly tease your hair to give it more volume
- Step 3: Push the ends of your hair through the opening of the Perfect Bun with about an inch of your hair sticking out
- Step 4: Roll the bun towards your head and twist the ends of the Perfect Bun around the hair elastic (there is wire inside so it holds it’s shape when you wrap the ends of it around your ponytail)
- Step 5: Spread your hair out around the bun to hide the Perfect Bun and add bobby pins if needed
- Step 6: Use hair spray or styling product to smooth over the bun and tuck in any stray hairs. If there are a few pieces hanging out, don’t sweat it. The messier the better!
That’s it for this super easy hairstyle. I like the Remington Perfect Bun because you can adjust the size of it depending on how tightly you wrap the ends around your hair elastic. So if you have thin hair like me you don’t have to worry about having enough hair to spread across a giant hair donut. And if you have thicker (or long) hair you can create a larger bun too!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! What is your go-to hairstyle for everyday? Let me know in the comments!

I’ve never actually tried anything like the Perfect Bun but I should probably get my hands on one because I wear my hair up in a messy bun almost everyday! It looks so simple, and I’m into anything that makes my life easier!

First of all you are looking SO fabulous in that orange lipstick! Second this looks like such an easy hair tool to use! I’ve only used socks in the past, but it can be tough to roll everything down through the hole without some of the hair sagging etc.
Megan Joy says
It definitely takes some practice but I think it’s pretty easy to use : )
Nancy says
Hmm. This looks even easier than a sock bun! Crazy awesome.
Megan Joy says
I’m the most uncoordinated person I know, so if I can do it anyone can!

I love it! Right now my hair is slightly too short to pull of a bun of any kind but I will bear it in mind for the future!
Megan Joy says
I was in the same spot last year, I chopped my hair into a bob and loved it! Once your hair is a bit longer you could def rock this look!
MizzJ says
Ballerina buns are so pretty! I think we have similar hair textures so this gives me hope that maybe I could achieve this as well!
Megan Joy says
I’m all about tricking people into thinking I have thicker hair than I actually have lol
