Summer Colours: theBalm Read My Lips Lipgloss

July 13, 2015 20 Comments

readmylips2

If you’ve been following my blog or YouTube channel for a while you know that I am a huge fan of theBalm Cosmetics. They are a San Francisco brand and their makeup is fun flirty and most importantly – great quality. I bought many things from their flagship location in downtown San Francisco when I used to live there. They remind me a bit of Benefit Cosmetics, their packaging is very cheeky and colourful and the names are always sassy.

Though I’ve tried a large selection of their makeup I hadn’t tried many of their lip products. I was so excited to try out 5 of their most popular shades, especially after reading reviews and seeing how much people love these lippies! The Read My Lips lipgloss collection has 11 shades from sheer to crazy pigmented. They are infused with Ginseng which can cause your lips to look more plump.

swatches

L-R: Pop, Bam, Zaap, Hubba Hubba, Wow

pop

Pop

This is a creamy tangerine shade that goes on super smooth. I love this colour for the summer, it’s sort of peachy and looks great as an alternative to a nude lip.

bam

Bam

This is a soft pink/nude shade that glides on smooth and is quite opaque. This might be my favourite of all the colours!

zaap

Zaap

This is a sheer glittery pink gloss that applied patchy on me. As you can see in the photo it clung to dry areas and didn’t have the same plumping effect as the other shades. Not my favourite but it’s still a pretty colour.

hubba hubba

Hubba Hubba

In the tube it looks more red but once applied it’s a bright fuchsia. It’s crazy pigmented and be careful because it can transfer onto your teeth easily if you don’t apply it very carefully. It wasn’t goopy and I was able to get a precise line with the doe foot applicator without much trouble.

wow

Wow

This is a vibrant red that applied a little unevenly on me. I had to really work to get it smootly applied without it building up around the edges of my lips. I don’t love red lipstick on me (I’d always rather go for a pink) but this one is a pretty shade but I might pull out if I want to do a Taylor Swift inspired look!

Have you tried anything from theBalm? What’s your favourite lipgloss at the moment? Let me know in the comments!

Personally, I love Hubba Hubba on you. It’s just so different than what I’ve come to expect from you. But Joy is right up your alley!

These all look great on you! Hubba Hubba sure looks hubba hubba! 😉 Bam is really nice and soft on you and I would totally go for something similar, just a bit more pink for me – different skin tone and all. 🙂

I’ve been wearing Bam almost every day this past week : ) It’s a little less pink in person but it’s still a really pretty neutral!

I know right? They are crazy pigmented and definitely give that pumped glossy finish I like.

Thanks Sheila! I tend to go for bright pinks but I am glad I experimented with some shades that are outside of my comfort zone : )

I love Bam the best! Wasn’t expecting it to be so pigmented, but I really like it – now I think I need to go to that location you took me to in San Francisco and buy it myself 🙂

When I first read the title I was thinking..where did I read “read my lips” before…it’s a david’s tea tea!

I don’t have anything from thebalm, but I have swatched their blushes from London Drugs; pop ans zam are colours I’d wear all the time!

I only have the Mary Lou Manizer highlighter from theBalm and I absolutely love it. All the shades really suite you but, you’re right Bam has to be my favourite as well. They seem really pigmented for lip glosses, I’m currently loving the MUFE Plexi glosses.

I have Cindy Lou Manizer but I don’t like it as much as Mary-Lou Manizer. It’s too pink and doesn’t really show up on my skin. I need to find someone who wants to swap : )
