I recently had to chance to try out a whole new line of skincare. It’s called Paula’s Choice, a brand I had never used before. I’ve seen a few bloggers write about Paula’s Choice in the past and they always praised their up-front and honest approach to skincare plus being great quality for an affordable price!
Started by Paula Begoun in 1995 this skincare line was created to help people find products that treated a variety of skin issues from acne to rosacea. I received these products about a week ago so I wanted to share my first impressions with you!
Clear Acne Kit
After a one-on-one phone call with a Paula’s Choice representative I was sent a full skincare regimen to try out. I told her about my skin issues (rosacea, breakouts and sensitivity) and she was great about informing me about what would work best for my skin. As the first step in my treatment she recommended the Clear Acne Kit which includes a cleanser, exfoliator and a treatment to help with the acne breakouts I have been getting on my chin and forehead.
Left to right: Clear Pore Normalizing Cleanser, Clear Daily Skin Clearing Treatment
*Exfoliating Solution not shown as it’s water consistency. Not really “swatchable” : )
Clear Pore Normalizing Cleanser: This gel cleanser has a watery-texture that unclogs pores and removes makeup leaving your skin clean but soft. You’ll need a separate eye makeup remover but this cleanser removed a full face of makeup!
Clear Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution with 2% Salicylic Acid: This chemical exfoliant is great for people like me that have sensitive skin. You still get the benefits of a regular exfoliant (removing dead skin cells) but it’s much more gentle. Regular use of this products can result in a more even skin tone and increased collagen. It’s a water consistency so I just apply it to a cotton pad and wipe my face and neck with it.
Clear Daily Skin Clearing Treatment: This is a gel spot treatment for active breakouts. I only use this at night and only on targeted areas that need it. I’ve been using it for about a week but I have found it reduces the redness of active breakouts quite a bit.
Hydralight Line
To help treat my rosacea they also suggested a few things from the Hydralight Line. These products are meant to help reduce redness, even your skin tone and prevent reactions.
Left to right: Hydralight Moisture Infusing Lotion, Hydralight Shine Free Daily Mineral Complex SPF 30
*Again, Toner is not shown as it’s water consistency
Hydralight Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner: This antioxidant-rich toner is meant to soothe skin and reduce inflammation. I use it in the morning after splashing my face with water (I don’t wash my face in the morning). It’s also nice to use at night after cleansing to make sure you get every last bit of makeup off your skin!
Hydralight Moisture Infusing Lotion: This lotion is slightly more hydrating than the Daily Mineral Complex and is so gentle you can use it around your eye area with no fear of stinging or irritation. It says it’s fragrance-free but I detect a slight cucumber scent which I absolutely love. It’s still not quite hydrating enough for my dry skin to use as a night cream so I apply this underneath my night cream. If you have normal/combination skin this would likely be the perfect night moisturizer!
Hydralight Shine Free Daily Mineral Complex SPF 30: This formula is on the lighter side for me as it’s meant for normal to oily skin and I have normal/dry skin. But because this line is specifically created for those with rosacea or sensitive skin it made sense for me. I am so glad I tried it! While this lotion is not as hydrating as I would normally prefer, it’s super gentle and does a great job at reducing the redness on my cheeks. Plus it has SPF 30 built right in!
After a week of using Paula’s Choice my first impression is…thumbs up! No irritation or reaction to any of the products and my skin is feeling more clear and even with each day. I’ll have to use the skincare for a few more weeks at least to see the full benefits, but so far I am really impressed with the quality of the products and the amount of active ingredients in them.

It seems everyone who’s tried their products have nothing but good things to say. I’ve tried their 2% BHA lotion and really liked it, and it made me switch from physical exfoliants to chemical ones (much more gentle on the skin,).

Totally! I started using a chemical exfoliant about a year ago when I discovered the one from Miracle 10 Skincare in Toronto. As far as I can tell they are somewhat similar but Paula’s Choice is about $15 less.
