When I was living in San Francisco last year I discovered the brand theBalm Cosmetics. It’s an SF based brand that has great makeup and fun and cheeky packaging! I bought so many products from their flagship store and I loved them all, but it’s definitely a little harder to get your hands on this brand in Canada. I know Rexall carries some of their line which amazing, but there are some things you can only get on the website (be aware of international shipping!)
theBalm was kind enough to send me one of their eyeshadow palettes recently called theBalm Meet Matt(e) Nudes ($42 US/$53 CAD). I finally got around to trying it out this week and my first impression is – I really like it! I don’t wear eyeshadow that often and when I do it’s normally one shade all over the lid and that’s it. So I challenged myself to create a makeup look that used at least two of the gorgeous shades in this palette.
The set contains nine matte eyeshadow shades and each one is pretty huge for a palette. The size of these eyeshadows are generous which means you get a lot of bang for your buck!
They are all beautiful neutrals so you can easily use them as a base or to create a really natural eye look. The colours range from a bright matte white to a smokey grey. I think Matt Singh might be my favourite, it’s a salmon shade that’s unlike anything else in my collection!
I used three of these matte shades to create my makeup look. One shade on the inner corner, a second shade all over the lid and on the lower lash line and a third colour in the crease. Overall this look is still pretty light which is how I prefer my eye makeup. You could easily create a darker and more dramatic look using this palette as well, but it’s nice to know you can achieve softer look too.
What I used for this look
- Inner corner: Matt Maloy
- Lid/Lower lash line: Matt Hung
- Crease: Matt Singh
These shadows are finely milled so they apply really smooth without being patchy. Be careful to tap off the brush before applying though, otherwise you may experience some fallout. I can’t wait to play around more with this shadow palette!
What is your favourite shade from the theBalm Meet Matt(e) Nudes Palette? Let me know in the comments!

Those ones are so pretty! I haven’t worn Matt Abdul yet, only swatched it. But it’s gorgeous! This is seriously such an awesome palette.

I know I love it! It reminds me of Benefit Cosmetics. So cheeky with a vintage vibe : )

This was my first The Balm palette and I’m amazed with how much I reach for it. Since everything’s so matte, it’s a great way to add texture and dimension to looks when I’ve added way too much shine.
I love the look you did – Matt Singh pulls a really lovely peach shade on your lids. So beautiful.

If this palette is Chelle approved then it’s good by me! : ) The Matt Singh shade is totally different from what I would normally go for but I really like how it came out!

Okay I think I need this palette after seeing your swatches and hearing your thoughts – it’s so lovely and I really do love that it’s not all browns. 🙂
Megan Joy says
That’s true! So many palettes these days are all nudes and browns which is nice, but I love that this one has more variety!
Kristi says
I love these shades! I could definitely use some mattes like these in my collection!

I’m just not good at applying eyeshadow so glitter/shimmer is tricky for me to work with. Matte’s are much easier to use I think!
