MAC x Ellie Goulding Without Your Love Lipstick

First of all IT’S CHRISTMAS EVE!!! I hope your day is full of holiday cheer! And Santa! And all things merry and bright!

Second, it’s time to chat about the MAC x Ellie Goulding collection! I picked up one of the lipsticks from their newest release and I wanted to share my thoughts with you before I go into a food and sleep coma that will likely take me into the new year.

As we all know, MAC Cosmetics is constantly coming out with new collaborations and most of them come and go without me even noticing. Unless you are Julie (master of all things MAC) from Swatch and Review it’s impossible to keep up with all the new releases they are constantly launching! I only have a few MAC lipsticks which I absolutely love but otherwise my collection is pretty non-existent.

When I heard that MAC was working with Ellie Goulding it definitely peaked my interest. I am a big fan of her music and style so I was very interested to see what her collection would look like. When it finally launched last week I was excited to see that all the products are totally wearable. Nothing to dark or pigmented – just gorgeous pinks, peaches and corals. I was surprised to see people hating on this collection so much, though I do agree the two lipstick shades she released are very similar. Like, very similar.

I picked up the MAC Ellie Goulding lipstick in Without Your Love which is a semi-sheer warm seashell pink. It’s the MAC cremesheen formula which means it’s on the sheer side.

As you can see in the swatch it’s a very thin formula and quite glossy. I found that the more you warm up the lipstick the better it applies. At first it might look translucent on your lips but if you give it a few more swipes the colour will build gradually.

So what are my thoughts on this lipstick?

What I like:

  • The colour is a “my lips but better” shade
  • It’s sheer so I can apply this quickly without worrying about perfect application
  • The packaging is chic, and the logo reminds me of Chanel

What I don’t like:

  • I found this formula drying on my lips, despite the cremesheen formula claiming to include a moisturizing serum
  • It settled into my dry patches and fine lines (especially when I tried to build up the pigmentation by applying a few layers)

I’ve been wearing this lipstick a lot the last few days and find that if I apply a chapstick first it’s less drying. Though I admit I wish the formula was more pigmented I really like how subtle it is. Plus it compliments pretty much any makeup look!

What do you think of the MAC x Ellie Goulding collection? Did you pick anything up from this set? Let me know in the comments : )

It looks really pretty on you Megan! I was actually looking into the other lipstick that she released, the more corally one.

People have been hating on this collection? Wow! I actually thought it looks pretty nice with the packaging and stuff.

I’ve just seen a lot of people complaining that both lipsticks are quite sheer and that the colours are similar (both of which are true). But I don’t mind, I like that the lipsticks are more wearable for every day : )

It’s so pretty on you, Megan! Too bad that it’s drying though, so strange for a cremesheen!

Totally! I still love it and just wear a balm underneath but I was surprised that the formula wasn’t more hydrating.

I enjoyed your review of this lipstick but I rather have moisturizing than wearable lipstick! 🙂 Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you too! I don’t find MAC lipstick very hydrating either, but they have so many pretty colours!

Merry Christmas! This looks super pretty on you! Too bad it’s so drying; that’s the main reason I avoid MAC lipsticks generally.

I feel the same. Maybe they have other lipstick formulas I should try, but most ones I’ve tried from MAC are beautiful shades but slightly drying : /

This one looks great on you, it’s very natural.
It’s too bad the formula is drying though, I hate lip products like that.

I’m surprised the lipstick dried your lips out. Like you said, Mac Cremesheens normally don’t do that. Thats unfortunate…it’s a lovely shade on you. Definitely something I can imagine you wearing often.
