Warby Parker At-Home Try On

About 2 years ago I got LASIK eye surgery. I was completely terrified heading in to my appointment, to the point of almost throwing up. Even the Xanax they offered me before hand didn’t make a dent in the anxiety I was feeling. I was definitely going to go blind or get some rare infection or something worse that’s never happened before in the history of the world!

Fast forward a few hours and I made it out alive and with 20/20 vision. I was so happy to toss my glasses aside and say goodbye to my -6.00 prescription. But it was not to last. I now have a very slight but noticeable prescription again that had my optometrist suggesting I get glasses for night driving and prolonged time staring at my laptop.

Enter Warby Parker. My husband has been ordering glasses from them for years and had told me about how great their customer service is. Almost all the frames are $95 (including the prescription lenses) which is a great price!

They offer a Free At-Home Try On where you select 5 frames and they send them to you (with sample lenses) to try on and decide which pair you like best. They even pay for the return shipping! You keep them for up to 5 days and then send them back. If you find a pair you like you go ahead and purchase them from the website – or a store if you happen to have one in your city. If you don’t like any of the glasses there’s no commitment to buy. Just mail them back and keep it moving!

Keep reading to see which pair I chose! : )

1. Annette in Petal Tortoise

These are the most traditional shape out of the 5. The rectangle style is what I would normally go for but I found they sat low on my nose and the colour didn’t make my eyes pop like I hoped. Pass!

2. Durand in Whisky Tortoise

These rounded frames were just too big for my face. They had the strange quality of making me look cross-eyed which is always an issue when you have close-set eyes like I do. I did like the shape a lot but these were not quite right. Pass!

3. Gilbert in Scarlet Tortoise

I love the cranberry colour of these frames! The shape (reminiscent of Ray Bans) is so cool, but again they are just too large for my face. I was so sad these ones didn’t work out, mostly because I love the colour. Pass!

4. Newton in Peacock Tortoise

I picked these frames because I read they were flattering for small face shapes, and that is totally true. I love the frame pattern and colour (peacock? so fun!) and the size doesn’t overwhelm my face. I didn’t go with these, but they were a very close second place! If you have small/close-set eyes these would be a really cute style to try. But for now, it’s a pass!

5. Percey in Striped Sassafras

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! These are very similar to the second pair I tried (Durand) but a slightly smaller frame and a lighter colour. In the photo where I’m wearing them you can tell this particular sample is a little bent so they look a bit crooked, but even still I love these glasses. I surprised myself as the rounded shape is very different for me. I’ll take ’em!

I wanted to mention that Warby Parker also gives back in a unique way. They created the Buy a Pair, Give a Pair Program which as helped distribute over a million pairs of glasses to people in need. They don’t actually donate a pair of glasses for each one sold. Instead they tally up the number of glasses sold and make a monthly donation to their nonprofit partners. This is an attempt to contribute to a more sustainable plan that uses their monthly donation to train people to sell glasses at affordable prices and offer eye exams to the community (rather than just donating frames people might not actually want). This creates local jobs as well as provides essential eye care services to those who need it most. Pretty cool, right?

Do you wear glasses or contact lenses? Where do you get your frames from? Let me know in the comments!

SO jealous of Americans. My Warby Parker experience was less than optimal in Canada. They don’t have consistent return policies and their sizes for glasses were NOT what they said on the website (a few millimetres makes a difference!). I ended up getting 2 pairs for the price of 1 in the end but man, it was a struggle.

I didn’t realize the At-Home Try On was only in the US, that’s good to know! Sucks that you had a bad experience dealing with them though :/

This is such a cool concept and a great post seeing what all the glasses look like, since it is always a bit hard to buy glasses online. That’s SO strange about that pair making you look cross-eyed, weird. The pair you went (and the one before it) are both really great on you, if you ever need another pair I do love that #4 a lot!

It’s so funny how some frames totally make people look cross-eyed, especially when you have close set eyes already! I’m super happy with the ones I chose but I still love #4 frames too : ) Maybe next year!

I love the style you picked! I don’t wear glasses, but if I did, I would definitely pick ones similar to that.

I never thought I’d have to wear glasses again (damn you LASIK) but at least I found a pair that I think are cute!

This is such an interesting program! I’m going to share this with my hubby – he’s in desperate need of some new frames, so this will be perfect.

Those glasses look so gorgeous, Megan! I love that you tried them all on for us – those cranberry ones are massive! 🙂

I am so sad that the cranberry ones were so huge! I loved the colour and it was nice against my green eyes but they were just waaaaay too big lol

I need to look into if this is a US only thing. I’m not sure if it’s available in Canada but I hope so!

Happy new year to you Jackie! I had such a hard time choosing lol When I finally narrowed it down to the last two I had to ask my husband to make the final call. I couldn’t decide!

Awesome blog you have here but I was curious if you knew of any discussion boards that cover
the same topics talked about here? I’d really like to be a part of community where I can get
responses from other knowledgeable people that share the same
interest. If you have any suggestions, please let
    me know. Many thanks!
