I feel like I should rename this blog post “Preggo Meggo goes to Multnomah Falls!” : )
I mentioned a few weeks ago that James, Buffy (our dog) and I went to Cannon Beach. It was so beautiful even though it was a cold and rainy day. On New Years Eve we woke up to the sun shinning and we knew we had to make the most of it. We went through our list of “places to see” and found a spot that was only a short distance away – Multnomah Falls, Oregon. It’s only about 35 minutes from Portland so it’s a quick ride if you are visiting the Portland area.
This 611-foot-tall falls is pretty spectacular. The photos don’t do it justice! The whole place was packed with people and animals (it’s dog friendly – yay!) and I imagine it only gets busier during the summer months. Please be careful if you go this time of year because the walk up the path was paved but very slippery due to the rain and cold temperatures. Not much of it was salted so we were slipping and sliding a bit as we walked up to the Benson Bridge which you see in the photo above.
You can hike all the way to the top of the falls, but we decided to save that for a warmer day. The falls are located next to a lodge that houses a gift shop, restaurant as well as an information center. You can see the top of the lodge in the photo below, as well as a beautiful view of Oregon mountains.
At this point I was enjoying the incredible view while simultaneously fearing I may slip at any moment and fall on my butt. I’m clumsy already, but add pregnancy into the mix and losing my balance is pretty much a daily occurrence. Note my arm casually resting on the railing for some extra support : )
This is truly a must-see location if you happen to be in the Portland area. It’s so beautiful and you’ll pass gorgeous mountains and several other falls along the way! While this doesn’t hold a candle to Niagara Falls it’s still totally worth checking out.
What’s your favourite local “nature” spot? Maybe it’s a hiking trail, a waterfall or a beach? Let me know in the comments below!

Preggo Meggo, that’s too funny, lol!
This sounds like a beautiful place to visit. That first picture, wow!
Around here we have the Gatineau Park which has many trails and beautiful scenery. I haven’t been in a few years, but will definitely go when Miss M will be able to enjoy it.

The photos don’t do it justice! Gatineau Park sounds amazing. I’ve heard that there are so many beautiful nature spots in Quebec!

WOW so beautiful! I can’t believe that’s so close to you! Glad you’re getting out and exploring your ‘hood! And love the HBC mitts 😉
Megan Joy says
It is kind of crazy that it’s such a short drive from the city. You don’t have to go far in Oregon to find beautiful spots like this. I can’t wait until it’s warmer so I can explore more!
I had to represent Canada with those mittens : )

The PNW is so beautiful! I’ll have to add this on my places to visit. I’m from California and I’m so jealous of all the water you guys have up there! Great post 🙂
Megan Joy says
Haha we have too much water lol It’s the exact opposite of what California is going through. I lived in SF for a year in 2014 and the drought was pretty serious even back then!

What a pretty place to visit! I would love to go see Portland, the farthest I’ve gotten is to the airport!

It’s definitely worth a visit if you can! The city is really cool but there are so many places like this that are just a short drive away.

You are SO freaking cute! We should go hiking sometime and tag team for our blogs 🙂

Are you kidding me? I would LOVE that! Though it may have to wait a few months until after the baby comes. I’m doing more waddling than walking these days : )

Gorgeous view of the falls! Here in Lynchburg, Virginia, its going to the Peaks of Otter which is along the Blueridge Parkway for a scenic view of the mountains and the valleys on either side! 🙂

Oh wow this is gorgeous scenery! I really want to gather a bunch of friends to go to Portland sometime, I’ve never been and it’s technically not that far from Vancouver! Heard the food is pretty good too!
