Sleep has been hard to come by these past few weeks. Now that I’m in the third trimester of pregnancy I’m dealing with some pesky aches and pains that make it difficult to get comfortable at night – not to mention my bladder is currently the size of a cherry. Needless to say I’m looking a little worse for wear. I don’t have a problem with puffiness but I have developed some rather *ahem* pronounced dark circles that usually require a full coverage concealer.
I always reach for my holy grail concealer which is the Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer. I’ve been using it for about 4 years now and nothing else compares to the amazing coverage and formula. That is, until now.
In January 2016, Make Up For Ever released their new Ultra HD Concealers ($32 CAD/$27 USD) and I was sent the shade Y23 to try out. There are 10 colours altogether (5 correcting shades and 5 concealing shades) and my understanding is that layering them is the best way to apply them. So you start with a corrector and then apply the concealer on top. I didn’t use a corrector and still found this concealer worked well on it’s own.
There are a lot of fancy terms involved when it comes to they key ingredients. To be honest I don’t know what most of them mean, but I thought I’d share them with you anyway:
- Lamellar structure pigments: illuminates and brightens the eye area
- Anti-dark circle complex: A combination of green algae and amino acids help to conceal, while an Asian berry extract stimulates collagen
- 3D elastomer gel: Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
I apply this using my ring finger and blending gently. I also like to set it with a light translucent powder to really help it to stay in place. It’s quite liquidy so you only need a very small amount – less is more!
I don’t think I would say it’s better than my favourite Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer but it’s pretty much on par. I don’t like that I need to apply a second layer to get the full coverage that I want. However, it surpasses the Full Cover Conceal in it’s ability to look so flawless and natural while smoothing over fine lines. It also works well on blemishes and other spots as well.
If you are on the market for a new concealer I would highly recommend this one. It’s on the higher end price wise but it will last you for a long time. What is YOUR favourite concealer? Let me know in the comments!

Really great review! The concealer looks amazing. I’m using a drugstore one but I’m looking for a good one. This looks really good!

It’s definitely a splurge but I am already using a MUF concealer so I might just switch to this one considering how well it smooths over those pesky fine lines : )
Danielle says
I need to get this on my face.

Now I want to buy one of the “Correcting” shades and layer them to see if I get even better results!

I don’t see a difference
Megan Joy says
It’s subtle but I think it does a good job at brightening my under eye area : )

That shade is a perfect match for you. I love MUFE foundation but I haven’t had a chance to try the concealer yet. In spite of owning 20+ concealers, this one looks like a must try!
Megan Joy says
I really want to try their HD foundation, I’ve heard it great!
Elaine Atkins (@heyelaineatkins) says
Great results Megan! I really want to test this out but I have to get colour matched first as the one I was sent was WAAAY too light! 🙂 Looking forward to getting the right colour and looking more awake 😛
Megan Joy says
Oh no! I hate when that happens. Hopefully you can find the right shade match! I want to try one of the correctors as well!

We were always taught never to use Full Cover under eyes as it’s too “dry and tenda to show texture more. The HD layering with a corrector should totally sit much more thing and hydrating. I totally love the Full Cover for blemishes! !! Can’t live without it!
Megan Joy says
That’s good advice. The Full Cover works amazingly on spots and blemishes so maybe I should only use it for that!
Jodi says
I love Full Cover too! It’s my absolute fave!!! Nice to know this one is pretty on par with it if I ever run out of Full Cover. (It is never ending)
Megan Joy says
Omg I know. I’ve had the Full Cover for over a year and there’s still tons left!
Larissa says
I will definitely have to buy this, thank you for your detailed post 🙂

It is always so hard to find the perfect concealer. Thanks for this post, I haven’t tried Make Up Forever…
Megan Joy says
It’s one of those brands that I’ve been consistently impressed with. It’s more expensive than drug store options but I think the quality is def worth it : )
Sammi the Beauty Buff says
Wow, that concealer looks like it works magic! I haven’t tried a lot from MUFE, but I’ve heard nothing but stellar things. Also, I’m super jealous of your eyeliner. It looks so neat!
Megan Joy says
Haha thanks Sammy! Winged liner is my favourite. Though even after years of practice it still takes me a while to get it even!
Ursula says
Great review for this high end concealer and you are almost there to the finish line to meet your new baby!
