If you’ve been following my blog for a while now you know all about my love affair with Nudestix. They are a Canadian makeup brand sold at Sephora and I’ve been a fan ever since they launched just over a year ago! All their makeup (aside from their mascara) comes in pencil form so the only makeup tools you need are your finger tips!
They recently launched their Nudestix Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencils ($24 US / $28 CAD) and I was so excited when they sent me a few to try out. They were also kind enough to send me one of their Blur Pencils ($24 US / $28 CAD). I wasn’t entirely sure how to use this pencil so I looked it up on the website. Here’s what it says:
“Blur Pencil is infused with dehydrated hyaluronic acid spheres that penetrate, swell up with water in the skin, and quickly fill in lines to support long-lasting hydration.” – Nudestix
Apparently you can use it as a lip primer, a pore minimizer and even smooth over fine lines. Talk about a multi-purpose pencil!
All Nudestix pencils come with a metal tin that you can use to store them in. Since each individual pencil comes with it’s own tin (and sharpener) they can add up quickly. There was a time I had 10 of these in my bathroom and it was getting a bit out of hand. I like to re-use them to give small gifts in or even for travel. They are the perfect size to throw a few pens in without having to worry about them exploding inside of your bag. It’s not easy to clean pen stains out of the fabric of your purse ladies! I may be speaking from experience…
The two shades I received are Belle and Raven. The collection contains 8 shades, split into two categories – nudes and reds. They both apply beautifully (just like all the Nudestix lip products) and are super pigmented. I love the mousse-like texture of these pencils!
I used the Blur Pencil under both lip colours and I did find it helped smooth over some of my dry patches and fine lines. I will say that it has a bit of a tacky texture though, so it caused the matte lip pencils to apply less smoothly than they would normally. I would totally use the Blur Pencil again as a lip primer but probably only with a more glossy lip product.
Nudestix Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in Belle
The website classifies Belle as a plum nude but it ended up looking a lot more brown/taupe on me. In the pencil it definitely has more of a pink/plum shade that doesn’t really translate to the lips, at least not on me. Either way I still quite like this colour and it’s a nice neutral to add to my lipstick collection.
I think I would like to try the shade Kiss next as it has a lot more pink in it than Belle does and we all know how much I love pink lipsticks! I love how this pencil doesn’t dehydrate my lips like other matte lipsticks and it’s very long lasting.
Nudestix Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in Raven
Raven is labelled as a deep red that ends up looking like a berry/wine colour on my lips. This one was slightly patchy and I had a hard time getting an even application. I think it may have been due to the Blur Pencil I used as a primer.
It’s not uncommon that dark lip colours are a bit tricky to get even and have some feathering or patchiness so it’s not a huge surprise. Try exfoliating your lips first before using this pencil and maybe you’ll have better luck! It’s a gorgeous colour but it’s definitely a lot more bold than I would normally go for.
Overall I really like these matte lip pencils though I prefer to apply them without the Blur Pencil as a primer. They are the most hydrating matte lip products I’ve found so if you have dry lips like me I’d highly suggest giving them a try!

Oh my GOD! There’s something about these pencils that made your lips look enormous (in a good way!!!). WOW! I’m in LOVE!
Megan Joy says
Haha I have been slightly over-lining my lips recently to try and get a more plump look. Thanks for noticing!!! 🙂

Belle is so pretty on you! What a nice nude. Raven also looks like its something that I’d wear. They look like they require sharpening though, which is too bad because I’m lazy and hate sharpening my products lol
Megan Joy says
I hear you on the sharpening. Thankfully these pencils last a long time. I’ve been using the same eyeshadow pencil for over a month and haven’t had to sharpen it yet!
Vero says
I have a nude stix and cannot figure out how you actually sharpen it. I got mine in a sephora giftbox, so it did not come with a sharpener. Are you supposed to use only a special sharpener?
Megan Joy says
That’s so strange that the gift set didn’t come with a sharpener! I usually sse the one it came with, but I also have another one with two sizes (like this one – https://goo.gl/4uF9FT) and the larger hole works well for the nudestix as well. I hope this helps!
Melanie says
Both are sooo pretty! Nudestix is definitely multipurpose!

It’s a fun, bold colour that’s for sure!

Ahh super pretty, love how your shirt matches the Raven shade. I’d wear Belle to work and Raven at night! Both sits so nicely on the lips!
