Fight The Flu: Winter Wellness Tips + MegaFood Giveaway!

I was a strict vegetarian for over 5 years. Before that I was a fle-gitarian for pretty much my whole life. And yes, that’s a made-up term for flexible vegetarian. I would eat veggie when possible but if I was at someone’s house for dinner I would eat whatever they made. 16 year old me wasn’t about to be rude to my BFF’s mom!

As a result I have always been low in iron and turned to supplements (along with eating other iron rich foods of course, like leafy greens). My favourite iron supplement the last few years has been MegaFood Blood Builder which is plant based and can even be taken on an empty stomach. It was initially recommended to me by my Dr! So when I got pregnant it was a no brainer to start “poppin bottles” of their prenatal vitamins too.

This concentrated vitamin C powder comes from whole organic oranges. Add one scoop to water, juice or a smoothie to keep your immune system in tip-top shape!

Megafood Complex C

Odds are you already know that Vitamin C is great for immune support. It’s always what I reach for when I catch whatever nasty flu bug is going around the office. But like most things, it’s best when taken preventatively. In addition to Vitamin C from oranges it also contains a blend of organic rosehips, green pepper, blueberry and cranberry. MegaFood Vitamin D3

Unless you live in sunny California odds are you need a little extra Vitamin D in the winter. Here in Portland we’ve had record rain and a lot (and I mean A LOT) of cloudy days. Enter Vitamin D! It can promote healthy bones and immune function and help with that winter “slump” many of us feel.

MegaFood Zinc

If you end up catching a cold or pick up a bug zinc can sometimes help speed up the process of healing. Like contouring or blue eyeshadow – less is more. One tablet a day is all you need! If you take more than the recommended daily amount (of any zinc supplement or product) it can actually make you feel worse.

The shining star of this supplement is magnesium. Unfortunately since entering the third trimester of pregnant I have not been sleeping well at all. I was taking a magnesium powder that you add to water but to be honest I really didn’t care for the taste.
