Bite Beauty: New Amuse Bouche Lipsticks

March 7, 2016 22 Comments

bite amuse bouche
L-R: Pepper, Beetroot, Gazpacho

Thanks to Julie from SwatchandReview.com I have been itching to try the Canadian brand Bite Beauty for a while now. She loves their lipsticks and when Julie tells you a lipstick is amazing – you listen. I was lucky enough to be selected by Influenster to receive a few of the lipstick shades from the new Amuse Bouche collection to review.

The newly released Amuse Bouche lipsticks ($26 US, $30 CAD) are sold at Sephora and are ultra-hydrating and highly pigmented. The literal translation of Amuse Bouche is “mouth amuser” which is pretty cheeky and cute considering it’s a lipstick. GET IT?!?

They come in 34 shades so there’s plenty to choose from! They’re formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates (woohoo!) and contain 12 edible oils. It scares me to think of how much lipstick and gloss I’ve ingested over the years. Fair to say, it’s a lot. It’s also fun that this is a Canadian brand (my home and native land if you didn’t know) and more specifically it’s based out of Toronto.

They have a citrusy scent and flavour which is unique and may not be everyone’s jam, but I actually like the scent. It fades quickly once you apply it so it didn’t bother me at all.

On to the lipsticks!

Gazpacho

Gazpacho

Gazpacho is a true blue-red. This colour is insanely pigmented. I only had to do one “swipe” across my lips to get the colour you see in the photo below. That being said I also had to use a Q-Tip and some concealer around the edges of my mouth to get a smooth line. If you are like me and have fine lines around your mouth beware that this colour is not forgiving. It’s totally wearable but it will take a bit of extra time to get the edges just right.

Gazpacho 2

You can probably avoid this by applying a lip liner but I’m way too lazy for that. The finish is glossy and super hydrating which is great for me as I have fairly dry lips. It’s not a colour I’d wear often but if you’re really into reds you might want to give this a try!

Beetroot

beetroot

Beetroot is a bold berry. This colour is no joke and will definitely make your lips the focal point of your makeup. Again, it’s highly pigmented and hydrating plus it’s a bit more forgiving than Gazpacho when it comes to feathering. I didn’t have as much trouble around the edges of my mouth but you’ll still need to give yourself a few extra minutes to make sure it looks even.

beetroot 2

I feel like this would be a great fall/winter colour! I’m definitely looking for lighter lipstick colours right now as we head into spring so it’s not something I can see myself reaching for often.

Pepper

pepper 1

Pepper is a dusty rose and the only shade out of the three I could see myself wearing regularly. I’ve realized that most neutral lipsticks end up looking more brown than pink on me. Not sure why! In the tube this colour looks totally pink but on my lips it’s much more of a brown/mauve shade. Either way this one was much easier to apply with little to no bleeding or need for touch-ups.

pepper 2

Below are swatches of all 3 shades together. You can even see in the photo that there is some bleeding with them all, but that’s not uncommon with an ultra-hydrating, glossy lipstick. Just be prepared to take the time to touch it up after applying or use a lip liner!

swatches

These swatches stained my arm for a full day! Even after showering you could still see the outline of the two darker shades. That means these lippies has some serious staying power. Long lasting? Check!

Bite Beauty is fast becoming a favourite of beauty bloggers and makeup lovers everywhere. It’s awesome to see a Canadian brand killing it in the cosmetics game. Have you tried any lipsticks from Bite Beauty? Let me know in the comments!

I just talked myself out of getting these lipsticks, but after reading your review about how long lasting they are, I feel like I have to get one… All of the colours look amazing on you! They all seem to work with your makeup of the day too. Hmm now to decide what to get….

Thanks Sheila! It’s so dangerous that they have soooo many shades to pick from. It makes it even harder to choose lol

Beetroot looks darker on you than in the tube and I absolutely love it! But I’m with you about wearing lighter shades at this time of year. All shades look great on you and Pepper is perfect for right now!

DANG. They all look amazing on you! I have one coming that I ordered but I can’t remember the shade haha! I do remember it was a more neutral shade though. But every review and pic I see makes me want ALL of the shades!

It’s rare for me to finish a lipstick too 🙂 I think the only one I ever finished was a MAC colour and it took me years to finally use it up!

All 3 are absolutely gorgeous on you! I picked up pepper, beetroot and radish and while pepper is definitely my new go-to, I love the bold shades almost as much!

I’ve always been intrigued with BITE beauty because of it’s food grade ingredients; however, I find the lasting power for the creme lipsticks to be underwhelming. Would you recommend and products in this line that has decent lasting power?

I never tried Bite Cosmetic’s previous formula but apparently the Amuse Bouche lipsticks are a much longer-lasting formula than before. I also really like the matte lip + cheek pencils from Nudestix, they have great lasting power!

Pepper is so my jam but the darker shades like Beetroot are just so pretty too! I think the only thing stopping me from buying any is indecision lol

Haha too many colour options! It’s a little overwhelming to choose when you have over 30 colours to pick from. I want to try Sugarcane!
