My Postpartum Style

June 16, 2016 28 Comments

Holy moly, I am 3 months postpartum! Seriously, where did the time go? Piper is getting so big and starting to show her little personality more and more. It’s been overwhelming but amazing at the same time! While I’m pretty much healed up, my body is still feeling kind of…soft. I’ve lost quite a bit of my pregnancy weight but I still have a ways to go and I am carrying most of it in my belly area. FUN RIGHT? I’ve had to purchase a few new items recently that fit my current shape better. Just like they say on What Not To Wear – dress for the body you have, not the body you want! Wise words Stacey London. Wise words.

Maternity clothes, especially tops, tend to be fitted with a lot of ruching to accent your growing bump. This is great when you are pregnant but the last thing I want to do these days is accent my belly! My pre-pregnancy shirts still fit sort of weird so I’ve had to find some new options! These are a few things I’ve been wearing a ton lately. Look out for Buffy – she totally crashed my photoshoot :)

Tobi Georgia Pocket Tee $52 US*

This blush coloured top is considered a t-shirt but I’m short so I can get away with wearing it with leggings. I sized up and got a medium because Tobi is a brand that’s known to fit small. I’m glad I did!

The medium fits ok, though from certain angles it does make me look bigger than I am. That’s always a risk when wearing flowy tops! It does a good job of hiding my belly which is key :) The fabric is sheer so you need to wear a tank underneath but I don’t mind because then I can nurse in it easily. Flowy tops are key if you are breastfeeding because they are easy to lift up. Just wear a nursing tank top underneath and you’re set!

Target Embroidered Swing Dress $22.99 US

A few weeks ago it was 40 degrees celsius (about 104 fahrenheit) in Portland and I was in desperate need of some dresses that weren’t too fitted. Praise the lord for Target! I wore this dress for three days straight because it was the only thing I could stay cool in. The length is good on me but if you are taller you might find it too short.

One downside is the fabric wrinkles easily but that to be expected with this kind of crepe-y fabric. It does fit a little tight in the boobs because well…everything is tight in the boobs right now. Because they are full of milk. #breastfeedingproblems

Tobi Distant Memories Top $36 US*

This is my favourite look. This is another top that I am wearing as a tunic. I’m obsessed with stripes so this was an obvious choice for me. I think this top fits better than the first one from Tobi. It’s still flowy and camouflages my belly area but it’s a little less baggy. It’s also easy to nurse in as I can easily pull it up which is a huge plus. The fabric is sooo soft. Even my husband commented on how soft it was! I have been wearing this outfit a ton lately.

I also love nursing tank tops and maternity leggings! In fact the leggings I’m wearing in these photos are maternity leggings from H&M and I’m pretty sure they are only about $15! What are your postpartum fashion staples? Let me know in the comments!

Shop Tobi for summer essentials: shoes, sandals, tops, sunglasses, leggings, triangle bikinis, blazers and more! New customers get 50% off their first order.

These are all great looks! I’m a pretty new follower, so congrats on the baby! Gap has some great finds that are new mom friendly. I have 3 nursing friendly shirts that are also belly friendly.

Thanks so much for checking out my blog and taking the time to comment! I never thought about nursing tops until after I had Piper and realized “oh crap, how am I supposed to nurse her in public” :) Thankfully flowy tops are still in style!

I found you through a giveaway you hosted and liked your content, so I stuck around.

I now only buy nursing friendly shirts. If I see one I have to have it, especially if it’s cute!

    I love your outfits!
Yoga pants were my staple when I was on maternity leave. I got a few pairs from Costco, they’re still my favourites to wear.

I miss Costco, we don’t have a membership here! Leggings are such a lifesaver both during pregnancy and after. They help suck everything in 😉 lol

I don’t know about you, but when brands put a pocket on a top, I am instantly interested in it a lot more. I wish more brands would do that… I love little pockets haha. And like you, I’m a huge fan of that first top (mainly because it’s pink. I love pink. Plus a good pocket). As for the top making you look bigger than you are, try wearing it with jeans, with only one side tucked into your hip.

Wait okay. Changed my mind. I think the striped top is my favourite! Little buffster in the corner looking out at the traffic, some cute!

Haha Buffy loves that spot specifically. She always sits there and looks down at the road it’s so cute lol I am going to try your tip and wear that top with jeans and see if it’s a little less baggy!

I love your style, Megan! It’s casual but still put together, exactly what I like to wear. That stripey top looks so comfy, and I really like the sleeves!

I don’t think it would be a fashion post of yours without Buffy crashing 😉 I love seeing her in photos! She’s such a cutie pie.

You’re so sweet! I am still pretty doughy around the middle haha :) But it was all worth it for baby Pipes. You know how it is! #MomLife

You are so styling! Love how you’re wearing these. I know what you mena about needing loose fitting dresses on the uber hot days. I just can’t wear anything else. Except maybe a swimsuit.
