Family traditions are a big deal in my family. Growing up there were things I always looked forward to about the holidays, especially when I was a kid. One special memory I have is on Christmas Eve my mom would give my brothers and I a pair of new pajamas to wear to bed. Then we were allowed to open one present. One. Single. Present. Choosing which gift to open on Christmas Eve was a very important decision and I often inspected the gifts under the tree days in advance to see which one looked the best (aka biggest!)
Now that we have Piper, it’s exciting to consider what our new holiday traditions will look like. I’m sure we will continue many of the things I did growing up like having a big family breakfast together before opening presents. One thing I will miss about being home in Canada for Christmas is our family Bingo. You read that right, our whole extended family gets together around the holidays and we play a giant game of Bingo! Everyone brings little gifts that are set out on the table and my Nana calls out the letters and numbers. I’d like to say it’s for the kids, but us adults love it too!
A great thing about living in Portland is that there is a Hanna Andersson store nearby. No catalogue required! When I saw that they had a whole collection of matching family pj’s my heart swelled. Though we are far from our family this time of year, I knew I wanted Piper and I to carry on the tradition of having new pajamas this Christmas. Matching ones of course! Plus they even have pj’s for dogs, so you know I had to include Buffy and get her a pair too! Technically they won’t be *brand* new since we wore them for these photos, but close enough 🙂
I am in love with this Dear, Deer print, plus they’re super soft and cosy. As a mom I have realized my frustration with onesies that have buttons so I am team zipper all the way. It makes diaper changing so much smoother! The snaps on my pj top make nursing easy which us always a plus.
Piper and Buffy look sooooo cute, I might have to print one of these photos off and frame it. Just look at them hanging out in their sweet lil jams!
I would love to know what your family traditions are this time of year! Regardless of what holiday you celebrate (or maybe you don’t celebrate any, that’s cool too!) I hope you all enjoy a few special moments surrounded by those you love <3

Love that you’ve embraced a few of the family traditions ! Wish we had a Hanna Andersson store here, it would be cute to dress Piper’s cousins in matching p.j.’s…

We are lucky to have a storefront location here in Portland. There is even an outlet in Lake Oswego nearby!

My favourite tradition is just like yours (minus the PJs! Which is something I’d like to include when/if we have kids!) — is opening up a present on Christmas Eve. Just one! 🙂 I loved it. And I DIE FOR THOSE MATCHING PJs! You + Piper + Buffy?! Amazing. They have the cutest stuff, I’ve already hunted their online store multiple times after I hear you mention them.

Isn’t their stuff so cute? I love how minimal and classic the kids clothes are. It seriously the softest baby clothing Piper has. When you have kids I’ll be sending some your way 🙂

You guys look too cute with your matching pjs!!!
Our family tradition used to be Christmas dinner at my parents’, but now we don’t really have one. We definitely want to start one with M which will be a gift for Christmas Eve which will include a new pj, either a new blanket or teddy bear, a snack, and then cuddle up to watch a movie.

I love that idea! When I got older we started watching a movie on Christmas eve (usually Elf haha!) and I’d like to continue that tradition. I’m sure Christmas will be so fun with M this year!

Aww, I love the matching pjs on everyone. Even though I don’t celebrate Christmas its great that you’re sharing this tradition with your daughter. Happy Holidays 🙂

Thanks so much Shaakira. Any chance to get matching mama/baby outfits is good by me 🙂

It definitely seems like that is a special tradition that many people have. I can’t wait until Piper is a little older and she can really get into the magic of the season!
