Hello everyone!
I hope you are all having an amazing August! Portland summers are incredible but the stress of living through a home renovation has definitely added some stress. We’ve tried to be intentional about setting aside time on the weekends to go out and do fun things as a family so that has really helped. Plus Piper is walking (and running) this summer so it’s a lot more fun to plan outings with her!
Since we have no air conditioning in our house, I’ve been living in flowy dresses that help keep me cool. This floral pocket dress from PinkBlush is actually a maternity-and-beyond dress I bought back when I was pregnant. The funny thing is I wear it way more now than I did when I was pregnant! I held on to a lot of my maternity clothing because we plan on having another baby at some point and I’ve actually ended up wearing a lot of the dresses *well* into my life postpartum.
Is anyone else living without AC this summer? What are you doing to keep cool? I’ll take all the suggestions I can get 🙂
Cindy says
Flowy dresses are the best for summer! I have several in my closet for warm days. I’ve been fortunate to have AC this summer, but last summer was my first without it. I had lots of popsicles to keep cool (we made them from scratch from the berries we picked on Sauvie Island).

That is actually such a good idea. I should get some popsicle molds and try that! We got a small unit for my daughters room and thankfully it’s been filtering into our room as well. It definitely helps with sleeping!

That dress is super cute! (And it looks better on you than the model in the photo in the pink blush website 🙂
I admittedly wore many of my maternity clothes after my kids were born too because they were so darn cozy 😉

You are so kind, thank you! It definitely fit better when I had a bump but some days I just want something super flowy and comfortable. I think a lot of moms wear their maternity clothes well into postpartum lift and there ain’t no shame in that game!

I love how this looks on you – and how you paired it with those vintage looking shades. Such a pretty, feminine vibe!
Megan Joy says
Aw, thanks pal! Gotta love $10 H&M sunglasses 🙂

I am obsessed with flowy dresses during the summer – This one looks awesome on you! We have no AC either in our apartment and it was brutal during that heat wave. I’m originally from Florida, so I’m used to blasting the AC any chance that I get!
Megan Joy says
Same here! I grew up on Ontario, Canada and the summers get sooo hot and humid. I was shocked when I moved here and no one had AC. We always had ours blasting growing up!
Meg says
The dress is really cute. And I know a number of moms way postpartum that still love to wear their maternity jeans! One of my friends says her maternity jeans are more stylish than her regular ones. Go figure! Guess it means you just can’t always pigeonhole things. Enjoy the dress!
Megan Joy says
That’s so true. I wore my maternity jeans for a year after Piper was born! It’s always nice when you can transition pieces in your wardrobe.

We have a portable AC and it does the job but it’s nothing like central air. I have spent most of the summer in dresses because with pregnancy and a newborn it’s the easiest way to stay cool! I love that dress on you!!
Megan Joy says
And you are nursing too so I’m sure a comfy, flowy dress is great for you right now! I think we are going to have to get central air before next summer because this heat is no joke!
