Baby Names I Love, But Didn’t Use

September 8, 2017 9 Comments

26 weeks with Piper!

I recently read a post by fellow Portland momma and blogger Lindsay where she shared some baby names she loved but didn’t use for her 3 kids. You can check out her post here! It reminded me that I’ve been meaning to do a post like this for a while now. If we have more kids I know we won’t use these names. In a weird way it feels like the “belong” to Piper. Anyone else feel like that? After looking at these names over and over during my pregnancy they feel so connected to Piper. Also I have realized I really like girls names that start with “P”! I have a few more on my list if we have a second girl 🙂

30 weeks with Piper

Without further adieu, here are the top names I loved while pregnant with Piper!

  1. Norah – We both loved this name. In the end it was between Norah or Piper.
  2. Penelope/Penny – I liked Penelope and James liked Penny. We couldn’t agree on which one to use 🙂
  3. Luna – I tried to sell this to James until the bitter end but he used his veto and I couldn’t argue haha!
  4. Jude – Still like this and I might use it as a middle name in the future. It was a like, not a love. Plus we thought people might always mis-hear and think we meant “June” since she’s a girl.
  5. Mae – I definitely have a thing for older names and this is one I’ve liked for a long time.
  6. Fern – Anyone else watch the move Fern Gully growing up? It was one of my favourites and I always thought the name Fern was so pretty.
  7. Petra – Still think this is such a cool name. I’ve only met 2 Petra’s in my life so it doesn’t seem super common.
  8. Isla – We both liked this one in the beginning but around half way through my pregnancy we just started finding names we liked more. And I didn’t know it at the time, but apparently it’s becoming a super popular name!

32 weeks with Piper!

I’d love to hear the names you loved but didn’t use for your kiddos! Or just names you like in general. I’m sure someone who is expecting will see this post and enjoy the suggestions 🙂

Penelope was one I liked, too, though it didn’t make our short list. You and Lindsay are making me want to write a post like this, too! Haha!

When I was pregnant with Eliza I loved Elouise, Penelope, and Lorelei. If she was a boy she would have been Everett.

With Cael we knew he was a boy and we had a real hard time picking a boy name but Brad saw ‘Cael’ somewhere and that was it. If was a girl he would have been Bridget.

With Rohen, I first liked Gerhardt, but Brad didn’t him to be called Gary, and we went back and forth on the spelling of Rohen for a long time (Rowan, Rowen, Rohan) . If he was girl he would have been Lenora.

I love Penelope/Penny but I just can’t name my child the same thing as a Kardashian. Nope.

I am a name lover too. You have a great list!

We had Leah picked out if we were to have a girl but other names I loved were Iris and Elizabeth.

Our boy name for a long time was Ridley, then Shea and somehow we ended up with Drew.

Oh I love this list! They honestly are all such beautiful names. I never thought of Isla until one of my dearest friends named her daughter Isla and I see it more and more now.

[…] I can’t believe Willow Joy is seven weeks old! It seems like just yesterday we were still deciding on names and now she’s almost two months old. Speaking of names, I wanted to share a few of the names we loved but didn’t end up using. I did a similar post after we had Piper which you can find here! […]
