Ohhhh how far we’ve come! Take a look at that scary photo above. It was after everything had been ripped out and the construction team was still working hard to get the floors, walls and ceilings done. Thankfully this was before we moved in! If you want to see more frightening photos of the original kitchen you can see part 1 of our kitchen renovation here!
In the photo above you can see our new appliances and cabinets! The oven became my absolute favourite right from the time I saw it on unclutterer. We got these a few months back and it was so amazing to finally see the kitchen coming together. You can see our makeshift countertop on the island! We used an extra piece of wood wrapped in plastic so we could finally have a surface to prepare food on. It worked really well!
We actually lived in the house with just a stove and a fridge for 3 months. No sink, no counters and no cabinets. It was awful but it’s true what they say – it has made me appreciate our new kitchen so much more!
Yay for countertops! These are made of quartz in the colour Super White since (if you can’t tell) we really like white 🙂 The countertops make this already bright kitchen feel even more bright. Our plan is to add pops of colour to break up all the white and wood. I’m currently on the hunt for some cute yellow dishtowels and I’m already loving these barstools!
Things we still need to finish:
- Install the hood vent (it’s half done but still needs to be completed)
- Pick out and install backsplash tile
- Install window trim
Are you doing any home improvements or renovations?

It’s looking fabulous!! So light and bright and modern! I hear you on appreciation for countertops, we were without for a couple months I think–but I can’t imagine only having a fridge and stove for 3 months! CONGRATS and I can’t wait to hear more!

Your kitchen is stunning!! I love it! Love how light and airy it is, and how the sunshine bounces off the white and light wood. The floating shelves look great!
Megan Joy says
I can take no credit, my husband is a designer and he worked with the cabinet company to make it all happen. So glad he went for the floating shelves!

I’m loving this joyful reno posts!
Question from a Newbie who has never done this before: do you work with a decorator or architect? The work you guys have done on the kitchen and bathroom is pretty intense and it looks amazing! Wondering if you had any support around plumbing and gutting the walls..
Megan Joy says
We definitely worked with an engineer. We did all the decor/layout designs on our own but consulted with the engineer to make sure everything was safe. We had contractors do all the tear down and building of the walls, plumbing ect. We did a lot ourselves but anything structural we brought in professionals 🙂

Megan Joy says
Thank you Natalie! It was rough going for a few months there with no kitchen but it was so worth it!

Hi, I don’t see where you mentioned where you got your cabinets and quartz from? Please share the resource for this great space. Thank you!
Megan Joy says
Hi Lindsey,
We used a local Portland, Oregon company named Finic!
