A few weeks back my friend Erin came to visit all the way from St. Catharines, Canada (my hometown!) When she booked her flight we knew we wanted to plan a girls’ night during her time here in Portland. She has 3 kids at home (can you say supermom??) so the idea of a kid-free evening sounded pretty appealing to us both 🙂 The AC Hotel Portland was kind enough to invite us to come stay for the night so we were able to enjoy dinner, drinks AND a fancy hotel room which was way more than we had planned!
The hotel is only a year old so it was no surprise that everything is clean, modern and new. I just kept thinking that my minimalist designer husband would love this hotel!
The room was beautiful and bright with cosy beds that were so comfy we were tempted to take a nap right when we checked it. We resisted (barely).
Our plan for the evening was to shower, get ready, go have a drink at the hotel lounge and then head to a movie. The location of the AC Hotel Portland is so amazing if you are visiting and plan to explore downtown PDX. The theatre was a 6 minute walk, the mall was a 5 minute walk, not to mention all the restaurants you pass along the way!
Just two moms getting ready for a night on the town! Let it be known it was about 6:30pm when we took this photo. I was having flashbacks to when we were 21 and it would be 11pm before we would “head out”. Ha! Now? Bedtime is at 10:30pm. Sharp.
We went down to the hotel lounge and each ordered a drink. I just asked for my usual aka whatever drink is the sweetest and doesn’t really taste like alcohol. It was delicious! And in true “Girl’s Night” fashion we lost track of time and totally missed the movie. We were just having so much fun catching up and enjoying our time together! So instead of seeing a movie we walked down the street to Pieology, had some delicious pizza and then came back to the hotel room and watched Netflix for the rest of the night. It was kind of perfect.
This is the photo of two rested mommas! We “slept in” until about 8:30am which honestly felt amazing. We decided to check out the continental breakfast (which costs $15/person) and it was so yummy. They also had cold brew and an espresso machine so we took full advantage of the coffee situation 🙂
Before we checked out we strolled around the lobby and the lower level just exploring a bit. The hotel as some really unique art installations like this one made of pencils!
On the lower level they have a gym which clearly I am not taking advantage of but if you’re someone who works out it’s a nice asset to have in a hotel! Don’t mind me, just wearing the same outfit as the night before, sippin’ on some delicious cold brew. Not basic at all.. 🙂
Once we checked out of the hotel we so we stopped by one of my favourite spots in Portland, Cheese and Crack! They have the most beautiful cheese plates that are so crazy scrumptious. If you’re ever visiting Portland this is a must-eat spot!
Erin and I had such a fun time staying at the AC Hotel Portland, so a big thanks to them for inviting us to come and enjoy a mom’s night out. It was so much fun and the good night’s sleep didn’t hurt either.
Have you ever stayed at an AC Hotel on one of your vacations? Let me know in the comments!

I love the AC Hotel! My husband, kids, and I stayed there overnight when they first opened and had a great time enjoying the hotel and exploring downtown Portland. They have great drinks in the lounge, and my daughter loves the macarons there!
