If you’re like me you love seeing what items look like in real life before purchasing from an online retailer. I will hunt for reviews on websites like SheIn.com to see how these super affordable clothes really look in person, and sometimes the results are surprising. I shared another “Expectation vs Reality” post a few years back and had a lot of fun sharing my experience. So here we are with another one! Also I wanted to note that I am 5″2 and ordered a size Small in all of these items. I wanted to mention this so you can judge the lengths and consider how it may differ on you if you’re shorter or (more likely) taller than me 🙂
I was inspired to try this kind of review by my blogger friend Nancy. She has been doing similar posts on her Ebay hauls for years (seriously check them out, they are awesome!) and I love seeing how the products compare to the photos online!
Here we go!
Expectation
Reality
This is the Rainbow Paint Babydoll Dress which sells for $11. I wasn’t kidding when I said their clothes are super cost-friendly! It’s 100% polyester so while it’s not very breathable but it is super flowy and comfortable. If you like oversized dresses this is a great affordable option. I really like the print and it looks exactly like it does on the website. This was definitely a win!
Expectation
Reality
This romper which they call “Pocket Side Overall Pants” were the dud of the batch. They were much slimmer than advertised and the colour was way off. In person they are more of an olive green which is a pretty big difference from the lighter, brighter green shown on the website. While I could get away with wearing this romper, it clings in all the wrong places and * full disclosure * I’m sucking in my tummy in these photos because it made me look like I’m about 5 months pregnant. Not really the look I’m going for!
The fabric has no stretch at all, which isn’t going to work for my job as a professional toddler-chaser. I looked on the website and it does in fact state that it has no stretch, so that oversight is on me.
Expectation
Reality
This Frill Cuff Polka Dot Dress retails for $15 and is my favourite of the bunch. It looks exactly like the photos and the length is great even though I’m on the shorter side. The flounce sleeve is a cute detail and it’s slightly oversized so you could totally get away with this as a maternity-friendly dress.
That’s it for this edition! Let me know if you’d like to see more posts like this. Have you ever shopped at SheIn? Let me know in the comments!

“Professional toddler-chaser” I love it! The dresses are both adorable, but I agree that the jumpsuit looks a lot different in person. Great series! I hope to see more posts like it soon.

Both the polka dot and paint motifs are totally up my alley- super cute! I’m glad both of those ended up working for you!

Thanks for this! Have been debating on the overalls for a few weeks now, and won’t be buying them(I run a daycare so anything restrictive is a big no).

I was about to say the first dress was my favourite until i scrolled down and saw the cute polkadot one! I’ve been meaning to re-do these types of posts from my recent eBay purchases…but still haven’t gotten around to it. Whoops!

I’ve ordered from SheIn once before and I was actually just ogling the website for new goodies last night! I’m normally a small and I feel inclined to size up but the items you purchased actually seem pretty true to size.

I love these types of posts! Some of these sites are really inexpensive and what you get is not even what they advertise. I’ve never shopped on SheIn before but I’ll definitely give them a look!
Also love both dresses you got, but it’s too bad about the romper.

Such a fun post! I honestly think they all look great on you in photos (I realize that doesn’t always translate to comfort in person) but my favourite is definitely that polka dot as well, so cute!

Oooh, I love the polka dot dress! And I love SheIn as well, they have some really good stuff.
