I’ll start by saying that this is by no means a “what’s in my hospital bag” post. But I realized that over the last few months the pile of stuff I had been gathering in preparation for delivery and postpartum was growing and growing! So I decided to snap a few photos and share some of the things I have set aside for when the baby decides to arrive. I’ll do a proper “Hospital Bag” write-up soon though. There are still a few things I need to pick up before then because #secondchildproblems so look out for that post in the next few weeks (hopefully!)
I wore a robe the whole time I was in the hospital after delivering Piper. Sure, I brought pj’s with me but they weren’t nursing friendly (not sure what I was thinking there!) so I never put them on or even changed out of my robe. So when I saw these button-up pajamas at H&M I picked them up right away. So much easier to breastfeed in than regular pajamas. These specific ones are sold out on the website but they have a few other similar styles available.
I was sent a few things from Earth Mama which is a brand I recently started working with but have loved since Piper was a newborn. I used their Organic Nipple Butter and Organic Diaper Cream religiously and went through several jars of both during the newborn stage with my firstborn. So when they offered to send me some I was so excited! The Organic Nipple Butter helped so much with the healing process after my many breastfeeding issues. Olive oil, beeswax, cocoa and shea butter are just a few of the key ingredients. Plus you don’t have to wipe it off before breastfeeding! The Organic Diaper Cream was one of my favorites and never gave Piper any rashes or skin issues at all. The texture is really silky and thin so it makes it easy to apply a nice thin layer. This jar lasted for so long.
I never drank Raspberry Leaf Tea during my first pregnancy but this time around I wanted to give it a try. Everyone I have spoken to that drank this tea (usually starting 3-4 weeks before their due date) said they felt it helped ease and shorten their delivery which I am obviously all about! And even if my labour is exactly the same, the Earth Mama Raspberry Leaf Tea actually tastes really good so I look forward to sipping it every night before bed. Have you ever tried raspberry leaf tea to help aid in labour? Let me know!
I don’t think I’ll be bringing a pacifier to the hospital, but I wanted to have a few on hand for when we got home just incase. Piper never really took to a paci, but maybe this baby will? I’ll be honest, I just ordered this BIBS pacifier because it has great reviews and came in cute colors. I’ve never used this brand before so we will see how it goes. Same goes for this adorable pacifier clip! It’s cute and had decent reviews so I went for it. I didn’t even have a clip with Piper because she barely used a pacifier anyway so we will see how much use this little guy gets lol
I had sooo many issues nursing Piper and I wish I had known that Nipple Shields existed sooner. It’s not an essential for everyone but if you run into trouble or your nipples get really torn up during those newborn days you need one of these! This one is the Medela Nipple Shield and it’s the same one I used with Piper. This is most definitely coming with me to the hospital and I’ll start using it at the first sign of pain (if there is any) to prevent things from getting gnarly.
This Kristin Ess shampoo and conditioner was sitting in the nursery since I just purchased new bottles and hadn’t brought them into the shower yet, but I just wanted to remind you that the first shower you take after giving birth is just magical. Like, really amazing! I don’t even think I brought shampoo last time and probably just used whatever they had at the hospital. I’ll be sure to bring these this time since they are my current favorite combo!
This is the outfit I brought Piper home from the hospital in and what I plan on bringing baby girl home in as well. I am so excited to see how she looks in her big sister’s jammies! These are from the Organic Pima Cotton line of pj’s from Hanna Andersson and are incredibly soft. I’ve actually ordered a few other items for the baby from their Organic Pima Cotton line and I can’t wait for her to wear them. They are definitely a higher price point but they wash really well and 3 years later this set still looks brand new. Totally worth the money in my opinion!
That’s it for now! I would love to know what you found essential in preparing for your baby/delivery and what items you loved during your postpartum journey as well. Let me know in the comments 🙂

Thank you! I didn’t even think about needing nursing friendly pj’s the first time lol Lesson learned!

Your photos are lovely, I’ve heard praises for many of these products from mama friends. Blessings on your upcoming family addition!

Thank you Kelsey! Those Earth Mama products are so amazing. I tried so many different kinds of creams and those were the best for sure 🙂

You must be getting so excited for the arrival of Baby 2! This is a little thing, but I love the case the nipple shield comes in. I used a nipple shield for several months with my first (and had a million nursing problems too), and I didn’t have a case. I ended up putting it in a ziplock and it was forever getting lost. This is a much better solution.

Such a good point! Now that I am thinking about it, last time they just gave me the nipple shield at the hospital and I used an old retainer container to store it haha! I am sorry you also had to deal with some nursing problems. Especially as a first time mom it just makes things so much more challenging!

Thanks for the well wishes! We are so excited for Piper to have a sibling. It still doesn’t seem real but my due date is in less than 3 weeks now! :O

Congratulations! How exciting. Looks like you’re all set! I was 100% unprepared when I went to the hospital with my twins. I didn’t even bring clothes to bring them home in 😉
Not even kidding!
I could have used all this advice 8 years ago 😉

Haha I think we can all relate to the feeling of being unprepared. I didn’t use half of what I brought the first time. And didn’t have a lot of things I actually needed! Hopefully I will be a bit better about it the second time around 🙂
