About a month ago James and I were invited to come and enjoy a night at The Hoxton Hotel Portland. With my due date only a few weeks away it was the perfect time to get away and have some alone time before baby #2 made her entrance. Normally we wouldn’t be able to take advantage of such a generous offer because we don’t have any family here to watch Piper overnight. But it just so happened that my mom was here visiting, and she was able to stay with her. My mom is actually the only person who’s ever watched Piper overnight so I’m really glad that it worked out this way. Our last “date night” was over 6 months ago so this was a real treat!
We stayed in one of their Snug rooms which they describe as “compact but comfy, and cleverly designed” and I would totally agree. It has all the essentials and a very cosy feel. They have 4 different room sizes that and this is the second smallest. It was great for James and I, and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious for a such an intimate room. Lots of space for us to get ready at the same time without bumping into one another.
Back when the hotel first opened I became a “Hox Friend” which means I donated a few books to be included in a room for guests to read if they felt so inclined. I was there for a good long while before I realized they had booked me in “my” room with the books I had sent. I have more favorite books at home that I just couldn’t part with, so I decided to include some classics that I felt visitors might enjoy!
We were also gifted dinner at their in-house restaurant La Neta. They offer Mexican cuisine with a hip and eclectic atmosphere. I had a mock-tail that the server recommended and it was delicious. I don’t remember what it was called (pregnancy brain is real) but it was lemon and ginger flavoured.
I also got the Kale Enchiladas and they were so good. I can’t wait to go back and order this again, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time!
After dinner we went to the movies which is something we haven’t done in soooo long! If you’re a parent you get it. Booking a babysitter to go out to the movies is a rare occasion in our home so we usually just wait for movies to become available on Apple TV. So going to the movie theatre was the perfect way to end our date night. We saw Captain Marvel!
I feel like it probably sounds boring to say that our fun night out was dinner and a movie but honestly it was perfect. We came back to the hotel afterward, fell asleep instantly on the super comfy bed and SLEPT IN until 8:30am! It was magical 🙂
They also have a gorgeous rooftop patio that is enclosed so you can still enjoy it even during the rainy Portland winters. We walked around up there after the movie and took in some gorgeous views of the city!
They also include the cutest complimentary breakfast. Just fill out the bag with what time you want your food delivered and leave it hanging outside your room the night before. Easy!
It includes a yogurt parfait, orange juice and fruit. It’s such a great little breakfast! Being mega-pregnant at the time and had no desire to venture out for food in the morning, so this was perfect. I got to enjoy my breakfast in bed before heading out!
I had to stop by their coffee shop before I left and it offers a nice selection of coffee and tea as well as some yummy baked goods. I opted for an iced tea despite the fact that it was a cool and rainy day. Anyone else go for cold drinks no matter the temperatures outside?
This tile floor was so pretty and photo worthy I had to include it. Always doin’ it for the ‘Gram! 🙂
We had such a lovely time at The Hoxton! It’s going to be a very long time before we are able to have another night out like this so I am very thankful we were able to squeeze it in before the baby arrived!
Have you ever been to The Hoxton or La Neta? If so let me know in the comments!

“baby-moons” are sometimes the last thing on our minds but so SOOO good for you! I’m glad you got to get this little overnighter in before your life turns WILD (I have 2 kiddos too!)! 🙂 And those enchiladas look AMAZING! I need to check out that restaurant, for sure. Delish!!!

What a fun stay-cay at a local hotel! I loved Portland when I was there (visiting you!) a few years back. I can’t believe it’s been plural – years. Oof. Also, so neat that they had “your” old books there. I wonder if they knew that when they booked you that room? Also, I too raise my hand up with getting an iced coffee, no matter the temp outside. I do love me those vanilla iced coffees whenever possible. Also, I’m wondering when I’m going to leave my bebs overnight with someone….I am definitely needing a break, 14mths in.

I started by giving my pork chops some love with a rubdown of smoky coriander, ground mustard and a pinch of salt and pepper. Don’t skip this step, because you really want to season those chops, to give them plenty of flavor.
I prefer to use bone-in pork chops as they tend to cook more evenly and dry out less than the boneless variety.
Then, I made a tart cherry sauce by simmering some frozen cherries with a bit of balsamic vinegar, shallots and red wine. It’s the the perfect combination of tangy, rich and sweet.
